On Friday, March 9th, 2018<\/strong> we will be featuring an eclectic lineup of speakers who all have a unique perspective on what it takes to build community, share your work, and establish your creative practice as a sustainable, independent business.<\/span><\/p>\n

Austin Kleon is a writer, artist, speaker, and New York Times<\/em> bestselling author. His work has been featured on NPR\u2019s Morning Edition<\/em>, PBS Newshour<\/em>, TIME<\/em>, The Atlantic<\/em>, Forbes<\/em>, and The Wall Street Journal<\/em>. Now he\u2019s brought his depth and range of experience as a creator to his book, <\/span>Steal Like An Artist<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, an illustrated manifesto for creativity in the digital age.<\/span><\/p>\n

Steal Like An Artist<\/em> is a lesson in applied creativity. It\u2019s based on a list Austin drew up one day of key insights he wishes he\u2019d known when he started out. He boiled them down into pithy phrases: \u201cSteal like an artist\u201d, \u201cUse your hands\u201d, \u201cCreativity is subtraction\u201d, and many more. He turned that list into a talk, the text and slides from the talk \u201crocked the creative world\u201d (GalleyCat) and went viral\u2014and since it\u2019s been online, the original blog post has reached millions of readers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Austin<\/p>\n

His most recent book, <\/span>The Steal Like An Artist Journal<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, is an interactive journal and all-in-one logbook to get those creative juices flowing and keep a record of ideas and discoveries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The follow-up, <\/span>Show Your Work!<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, is a guide to the next step: getting known. Organized around another collection of pithy phrases \u2014 \u201cYou don\u2019t have to be a genius\u201d, \u201cShare something small every day\u201d \u2014 Show Your Work!<\/em> shows you how sharing generously can work in your favor online. Ranging from broader life lessons about work to the practicalities of internet life, it\u2019s an inspiring manifesto for succeeding as any kind of artist or entrepreneur in the digital age.<\/span><\/p>\n

Austin is also the author of Newspaper Blackout<\/em>, a collection of poetry made by redacting newspaper articles with a permanent marker. His art has been called \u201cbrilliant\u201d by New York Magazine<\/em> and The New Yorker<\/em> said his poems \u201cresurrect the newspaper when everyone else is declaring it dead.\u201d Austin\u2019s work regularly takes place at the intersection of traditional media and modern technology.<\/span><\/p>\n
