About

Gold Foil Art Print, Coffee and an curious Owlbear

Since the inception of the Baby Bestiary Handbook, we've been creating an annual calendar that gives you cute monsters for every month of the year. And for each year, we feature a different artist who gets to depict these adorable beasts in their chosen art style. This year, makes it our 9th annual calendar!

This year, we're excited to be showcasing the work of CatBat Art!

Past Calendars

As our 9th year of doing calendars, we've got the process down to a near science, below you can see all the calendars and the crazy different art styles showcased in prior years.

The Art

CatBat Art

Cat has been playing TTRPGs ever since she unofficially 'inherited' (absconded with) her dad's AD&D books 20 years ago. This met with mixed results as the illustration of the Night Hag from the Monster Manual proceeded to give her nightmares for years.

Notably, it heavily influenced her more grown-up path in life, as now she draws people's RPG Characters and goes to conventions for a living and draws RPG Monsters and Maps for fun.

She is the proud parent of three little phase cats (Phoebus, Stormageddon, and Obi-Wan) and one incredibly cranky blue-tongue pseudo dragon (Sobek.) In her free time (which her amazing and supportive spouse FORCES her to have,) she plays and DMs games at the table, paints miniatures, makes dice, hikes, and dabbles in skirmish gaming.

It is important to note that she's owned the first Baby Bestiary book for years, so getting to work on this calendar in her own style is something of a dream come true!

The Coffee

Because we were making coffee-stained art, we knew we had to have coffee to accompany our calendar! So to make coffee possible for our calendars, we looked to our friends in the coffee roasting business, Found Familiar!

If you're not familiar with Found Familiar, they are a local roaster that was founded in 2019. Their being to foster creativity and support others within the tabletop RPG community, and they've definitely made their mark. They've agreed to join us in offering one of their favorite brews, Regular Gnoll!

This is a blended Italian-style espresso roast that features a seasonally changing blend of beans, making it ideal for both espresso and pour-over coffee! What makes this coffee even better is that it is freshly roasted, literally days before shipping, to ensure the best coffee flavor possible!

Each bag of coffee is 12oz and whole bean.

Achievements

Achievements are Backerkits version of stretch goals. And what we like to do with our extended rewards is to enhance the rewards that every backer will be getting. In past years, this has been stickers and magnets that get included with each calendar. This year, given the nature of the art, I would also like to see an art print or postcard, but we have to get there first.

Our flagship reward will be to make each and every calendar printed with gold foil (which we'll be revealing after we reach the funding goal).

ALL UNLOCKED!!

  • $8,500 - Fully Funded
  • $12,000 - +1 Magnet in every calendar (total 1)
  • $16,000 - +1 Magnet in every calendar (total 2)
