How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
Will the PDF come out when the book is printed and shipped?
Nope! Vampires are eager to start playing as are we! As soon as the PDF gets it's final blessings, we'll deliver it to you via BackerKit and your ByNightStudios store account!
When will the PDF come out?
According to our timeline, we expect it to be in Q3 of 2023 (this year)!
Why did you move to BackerKit from Kickstarter?
BackerKit offers a whole bunch of new marketing features that we had to cobble together to make work with KS. A new modern feel, some reductions in redtape - and we were going to use the BackerKit service on KS anyway! Why not just - jump on over to BackerKit then!
Will addons ship with the book?
By Night Studios will be shipping out these books as soon as they arrive with the PDFs sent out before the books. All physical add-ons/stretch goals will be shipped with the physical book(s) once those are packaged up and ready for shipping.
Is Laws of the Night REALLY already written?
Absolutely! Writing for it didn't start much after War of Ages and we had a much bigger team assigned. Jason Herman and his team didn't just write one book... they wrote three!
When is the last day I can pledge?
Our crowdfunding campaign will end on Saturday, June 17th at 11.59pm PST
Can you tell me more about what the Bloodhunted and Forsaken Tiers entail?
For the Antagonist tiers (Bloodhunted and Forsaken), you'll work with our writers Corrigan and Jason to craft a signature NPC for the book. Where the other entries are more generically labeled templates, yours will be able to have a short background and probably a signature 'power' similar to how Hunters in the Second Inquisition book have, subject to approval and setting appropriateness.

Anything special for members of larp clubs like MES or C@M?
Yes! We love to support organizations that run networked larps. If you back at the Thin Blood ($35) or above level, club members get $10 store credit in our By Night Studios store (this will applied after the crowdfunding period ends, there will be a survey to get your name, email and membership number). If you renew/ sign up for a club membership by the end of the year, you get $5 credit applied/ on top of the above! Want to know more? If I pledge at the Antedeluvian or above level, do I get the Methusela Plus goodies? What about Retail tier?
No- the Methuselah Plus goodies (card decks, pendant) are JUST for that level. Antedeluvian and above get up to Methuselah level goodies, so : A handcrafted gemstone dice, beautiful hardback deluxe version of the book which will include bonus content, full color art, and more. A Soft-Cover "Pocket Edition" version of the book, a PDF of the book, as well as access to the Add-On Store. You will gain all stretch goal rewards, our thanks, and to be listed as a backer in the book. Retail level backers get ONLY the books listed, and access to the add-on store, no other tier benefits or goodies.
