Crimson Terrain

First Monthly Update

Hey everyone,

I have arrived with our first Monthly update. I am starting out small with this first reveal but will provide much larger sets for your review in subsequent updates. I have decided to release some amount of terrain pieces and dungeon tiles to you all each month to give you an opportunity to test the pieces out and provide feedback. This will serve two purposes, the first being the most obvious you get to have access to some of the pieces early. The second and most valuable in my opinion is you get to provide some early feedback on the product before we get too far along to be able to make any changes without causing any extreme delays to the final delivery.

Since Halloween is just around the corner, here are some asset previews primarily from the Spooky bonus set. Next week-ish I'm planning to send a link through the pledge manager for you to download one of the maps as a printable pdf with a few format variations for VTT use. Additionally, you will find one printable page of tiles and scatter terrain pieces included. I will hopefully include a few of the VTT-ready images as well as a dungeon draft asset pack with this download and will try to do so in future previews as well.

Spooky Terrain Bonus Set Teaser

Thanks again for your support and please let me know what you think about this little teaser. As you may or may not notice from this image I am using a mix of fully top-down views and some slightly tilted views. I am utilizing one "camera" angle or another based on what I think presents each asset in the most readable way.

If anyone is wondering where the next update is, I am working on getting that ready for everyone. I will likely post the update toward the latter side of the month in November and December due to the holidays and everything else that goes with them. I plan to feature content from the Deep Below set this time so you can look forward to some Ocean and Underground cavern pieces to be released in November. December I will be focusing on preparing some pieces from the Faerie Town set which will heavily feature additional fey and village terrain.

About the spiky fence corner, I would like that there be grid inside of it to "square" it off, so instead of an L-shaped terrain asset that is just the fence/wall, there is floor to go along with it that matches the edge color, providing additional stability when it's sitting on the table. Then when four of these get printed, these squares can be turned adjacent to each other to make up a chamber. You could also add a strip that includes a door, and these would get laid on top of the other piece. This feedback is from my use of the 1985 Games Dungeon Craft sets, which is how they have their fences/walls designed. 1985 Games has the added benefit of making battlemats to match different terrain colors of those beneath their assets, so if they do have a long stretch of fence/wall, they just lay it on their battlemats, and the terrain floor color on the wall strip matches the battlemat color. If you had access to their battlemats, then you could try to match these color textures. This latter thought is more of a compatibility wish between your sets and theirs, which might not be possible. If your assets match your own map ground textures and colors (a similar texture blend), however, that is a hope.

Looking great! I love the lil’ cats and pumpkins. For the graves, we may need some piles of dirt to go alongside or a more exaggerated sense of depth.

Yeah I think I'll need to fiddle with the colors and shading they don't read the depth or height as well as I'd like.
