Project Update: Thematic Sectors + the Remnants, Day 2

[ENG]🇺🇸🇬🇧

Welcome back survivors,

It’s been another good day for the campaign. Here’s the short version of today’s update:

TL;DR
  • I’m explaining how Thematic Sectors are structured, and what you can expect to find in that section of Brave New World.
  • We learn what happened as a result of yesterday's Remnants vote, and I present you with a new decision to make. Uh-oh.
  • 3 more Stretch Goals were unlocked (2 Thematic Sectors and 1 upgrade to all Core Books Archetypes), a couple more have been revealed, and the Week 1 Social Goals are progressing well.

Thematic Sectors, explained

What constitutes a Thematic Sector? With 14 of them now being featured in Dead Air: Brave New World after all current unlocks, this is something that probably deserves more details.

Thematic Sectors are inspired by real, existing locations scattered around the world, without being overly specific. They portray iconic situations (desert areas, resorts, snow-capped peaks, urban centers, bunkers, airports, subways, etc...) and feature characters, story hooks and ancillary tools (Gifts, Threats or additional mechanics).

Each Thematic Sector contains:

  • A descriptive overview
  • A dedicated illustration
  • 4 ready-to-use Points of Interest
  • 1 Distinctive Element (something that distinguishes that specific Sector, for example a full-fledged Threat related to cold for Terror on the Ice)
  • 3 possible locations for your Community to settle
  • 6 NPC archetypes with descriptions and related Agenda (these are people that fit the theme and have motivations to either help or cause troubles)
  • 1 Extended Narrative Cue (a longer story hook)
  • 3/4 situations that can trigger a Crisis (more succinct story hooks)

Thematic Sectors, when structured in this manner, can serve multiple functions: they can be used as starting points for settling the Players Community, but they can also be used as locations that Characters will visit during their adventures. Even so, Players may decide to become a part of one of the Communities described within specific Thematic Sectors, building on what is already there.

Thematic Sectors also provide a large pool of ideas from which the Master of the Blight can draw at any time, incorporating them into their stories or borrowing mechanics and cues to adapt to their own needs. The options are limitless!

The Core Book rules allow you to create your own Sector, but if you're looking for inspiration or want to cut down on prep time, the Thematic Sectors in Brave New World have everything you need to get started quickly.

The Remnants - Day 2

Yesterday's vote saw Alanna's triumph. The Remnants did as she suggested and barricaded doors and windows. It was a good idea, but not the best one: the noise attracted the attention of an Awakened. Warren and Lorraine, an elderly couple, died trying to save each other, while Chester fled in terror. The barricades should be able to withstand the assaults of lesser Awakened.

Keep in mind that votes from the previous survey are counted at 2 AM PT / 12:00 PM CET, so we can adjust what happens next in time for the daily update. Previous surveys are also closed at the same time.

You can vote from the form at the top of this update. What will you choose?

Unlocked

€35 000 - Where the Eagles Fly – New Thematic Sector (Brave New World): Communities stationed at high altitudes or in remote areas. Interactions with other Communities are difficult, but they enjoy relative peace from unwelcome encounters... but not the Blight.

€40 000 - Sea Embrace – New Thematic Sector (Brave New World): Islands of medium size. The handling of the dead becomes critical. High levels of social tension.

€45 000 - Generic Gifts Upgrade (Core Book): the Generic Gifts section will be expanded with more options to allow you to further customize your Characters.

Up Next

€50 000 - Lone Wolf – New Archetype (Brave New World): The Lone Wolf is a new playable Archetype who has survived solely on his own strengths and abilities. However, there is a limit to what one person can do on their own, and it is time to find a pack for the coming seasons. The Lone Wolf is not an individualist, but he recognizes when it is necessary to act alone to avoid unnecessary pain. A new Playbook will also be added to the collection of printed and digital Playbooks.

€55 000 - 3x Postcards from the Blight: All pledges including printed copies of the Core Book now also include three additional postcards with illustrations by the project's main artist, Samuele Zardinoni. Use these as inspiration or game props!

Weekly Challenges

48 new people have joined our Discord server since the beginning of the campaign. At 200, we will add two more Awakened types to the Core Book, the Blitzer and the Migrating Multitude.

25 “How screwed are you?” pictures have been posted on the #im-screwed channel of our Discord server. We’ll commit to boosting our Discord server to Level 2 for a year when we reach 50. You’ll find the instructions on how to take part in the Social Stretch Goal section of the campaign.

This is all for this update, until next time!

[ITA]🇮🇹

Bentornati sopravvissuti,

TL;DR

I Settori Tematici, spiegati bene

Che cos'è un Settore Tematico? Dato che, contando gli unlock attuali, ne troverete ben 14 in Dead Air: Brave New World, mi sembra un buon momento per fornirvi maggiori dettagli.

I Settori Tematici si ispirano a luoghi realmente esistenti, sparsi in tutto il mondo, ritraggono situazioni iconiche (zone desertiche, resort, cime innevate, centri urbani, bunker, aeroporti, metropolitane, ecc...) e offrono opzioni di gioco, spunti e strumenti accessori (Doni, Pericoli o meccaniche aggiuntive).

Ogni Settore Tematico contiene:

I Remnants - Giorno 2

I sopravvissuti devono lavorare all’unisono per avere successo.

Buon voto!

Sbloccato

€35 000 - Dove Volano le Aquile -  Nuovo Settore Tematico (Brave New World): Comunità stanziate ad alta quota o in aree remote.

€40 000 - Abbraccio del Mare -  Nuovo Settore Tematico (Brave New World): Isole di medie dimensioni.

Prossimi Stretch Goal
