Project Update: Archetypes + the Remnants, Day 3

[ENG]🇺🇸🇬🇧

Welcome back survivors,

Things have calmed down a little now that the Early Bird craze has passed, but that was to be expected. We still have some very exciting Stretch Goals ahead of us, so please spread the word about the campaign. We're using a new platform that not everyone is aware of, and there are certain places we can't reach, such as other Discord servers, Facebook groups, Whatsapp, Telegram, subreddits, and so on. It's a small effort on your part with a big payoff for all backers. It just takes a minute – Spread the word!

Here’s the short version of today’s update:

TL;DR
  • I’m looking at the Archetypes of both the Core Book and Brave New World, and explaining what kind of Characters you can make with them.
  • Leigh's proposal to confine the Bloater in the basement won yesterday's vote. What does it mean for the Remnants? In addition, we have a new problem for you to vote on.
  • We're almost there with a new Archetype, the Lone Wolf. The Week 1 Social Goals are moving along nicely. Completing these is easier, so help out!

The Archetypes

If you followed the game from the early days, you might be already familiar with some of this, but the campaign has welcomed many new backers, so let’s do another overview of this key aspect of Dead Air: Seasons

The Core Book offers 8 Archetypes. During character creation you will be required to select up to two (they can be combined with each other). When you mix them with the Brave New World’s currently unlocked Archetypes, that’s a total of 121 possible combinations.

(📢 Click on these links to add the PDF or the printed versions of Brave New World to your pledge).

The Archetypes are:

Athlete: has made body care and intensive training their lifestyle.
Examples: athletes of any sports discipline or team game, fitness enthusiasts, bodybuilders.

Fighter: has developed martial or military skills independently, out of necessity or passion.
Examples: martial artists, fencers, hunters or shooters who have perfected their aim over the years, target shooting enthusiasts.

Criminal: has violated, or continues to violate, the rules of society for personal gain. His low morality has allowed them to survive to this day, often at the expense of others.
Examples: thieves, swindlers, drug dealers, forgers, robbers.

Expert: possesses theoretical and practical skills in a specific field of application. Their knowledge is mainly practical in nature and they tends to work in the field.
Examples: mechanics, electricians, nurses, surveillance system experts, farmers.

Explorer: nature lover, able to spend days in the woods and move and survive in hostile environments.
Examples: hikers, mountain guides, forest rangers, scouts trained to move in nature.

Leader: personality of great charisma capable of inspiring the masses. A Leader addresses their interlocutor to motivate or give direction, not to manipulate them.
Examples: officers, captains of industry, political or religious leaders, managers.

Manipulator: knows how to behave and what to say to achieve their purposes. Makes communication their main weapon, both to mitigate tempers and to exacerbate them.
Examples: journalists, influencers, popularizers, preachers, politicians, marketers.

Savant: has extensive theoretical and/or specialized knowledge in a specific branch of the academic field. A Savant is not necessarily a college graduate and may have followed an atypical or unofficial course of study.
Examples: physicians, scientists, theologians, academics in general.

Provectus: is capable of controlling the Blight's power to a limited extent. They may have gained this power naturally or through a series of mystical, physical, and mental exercises.
Examples: ascetics, nature lovers, followers of the Blight.

Soldier: has served in a military or paramilitary organization where they were trained to deal with armed conflict. They are capable of leading their comrades, identifying the best strategies, and handling a large number of firearms.
Examples: professional soldiers, mercenaries, policemen, private security.

Crimson Hunter: is familiar with the Blight and its various manifestations, either through direct experience or through methodical research. They understand how to avoid contamination, enter and exit Crimson Zones, and hunt Chimeras and Awakened.
Examples: Blight scholars, hermits, hunters, survivalists.

Lone Wolf*: has survived solely on their own abilities and strengths. The Lone Wolf, who has been working and living alone since before the Days of the Blight, is often an individualist who can take care of themselves and does not fear loneliness.
Examples: outcasts, misfits, survivalists, hikers, veterans, people used to working alone.

*not unlocked yet, but almost there!

What happens, for example, by combining Savant with Explorer? Robert here below is one of the characters you can get.

Robert is a scholar with great theoretical knowledge, so his main Archetype is undoubtedly the Savant. Since he likes to work in the field and therefore is a very practical person, as a second Archetype we could choose Expert. However, we have pictured him as a person who goes to the woods and is completely at ease in nature, and we have assigned him the Descriptor "I can move confidently in the woods and wilderness": so we choose the Archetype Explorer.

You will be able to pick Gifts from each Archetype profile, or from the Generic Gift list, to create exactly the kind of person you have in mind. Of course, it will be possible to play a single Archetype when it makes the most sense for the Character in question or the context in which they will be placed.

Have you started thinking about who you'd like to play?

The Remnants - Day 3

The community was divided, but it was decided not to endanger people's lives. By working together, the Remnants were able to contain the creature in the basement. No one was injured. Unfortunately, the Bloater continued to scream and bang on doors all night, keeping people awake. Alanna blamed Leigh and his supporters. As a result of the stress, Leigh had a nervous breakdown and would be unable to operate if necessary. Ada and Lena have gone missing. Perhaps they fled due to the creature. Rico, an engineer, and Lia, a botanist, are scouring the school in an attempt to find them.

Votes from the previous survey are counted at 2 AM PT / 12:00 PM CET. Previous surveys are also closed at the same time.

You can vote from the form at the top of this update. What will you choose?

NOTE: Walkers Between Worlds are people who have crossed a line of contamination. They are not dead, but they will never be fully human again. When they are exposed to more contamination, they may become Awakened. During this limbo, they manifest useful Blight-related abilities.

Up Next

€50 000 - Lone Wolf – New Archetype (Brave New World): The Lone Wolf is a new playable Archetype who has survived solely on his own strengths and abilities. However, there is a limit to what one person can do on their own, and it is time to find a pack for the coming seasons. The Lone Wolf is not an individualist, but he recognizes when it is necessary to act alone to avoid unnecessary pain. A new Playbook will also be added to the collection of printed and digital Playbooks.

€55 000 - 3x Postcards from the Blight: All pledges including printed copies of the Core Book now also include three additional postcards with illustrations by the project's main artist, Samuele Zardinoni. Use these as inspiration or game props!

Weekly Challenges

61 new people have joined our Discord server since the beginning of the campaign. At 200, we will add two more Awakened types to the Core Book, the Blitzer and the Migrating Multitude.

29 “How screwed are you?” pictures have been posted on the #im-screwed channel (or Italian equivalent) of our Discord server. You can find them collected in this Facebook album. We’ll commit to boosting our Discord server to Level 2 for a year when we reach 50. You’ll find the instructions on how to take part in the Social Stretch Goal section of the campaign.

This is all for this update, until next time!

Bentornati sopravvissuti,

TL;DR

Esempi: ladri, truffatori, spacciatori, falsari, ricettatori, rapinatori.

Esempi: ufficiali, capitani d’industria, leader politici o religiosi, manager, responsabili d’area.

Esempi: giornalisti, influencer, divulgatori, predicatori, politici, mercanti.

Esempi: medici, scienziati, teologi, accademici in generale.

Esempi: soldati professionisti, mercenari, poliziotti, sicurezza privata.

Avete già iniziato a immaginarvi chi vorreste giocare?

I Remnants - Giorno 3

Buon voto!

Prossimi Stretch Goal
