Portland Oregon Trail is not a celebration of manifest destiny and settler colonialism. It’s a goofy road trip across the country in a beat-up vehicle with a bunch of other weirdos on a mission to fight for what this country really stands for. It’s a love letter to all the freaks, misfits, and cryptids that call this land home.

Like in the OG Oregon Trail game, you might have to ford a river in your Ford and you’ll definitely be contracting a variety of illnesses. But the main obstacle between you and Portland will be capitalism. Your characters have limited resources (and no health insurance), and your roles as societal misfits will make you a target for capitalist villains who hate that you don’t follow their rules. In this game, though, conformity is as good as death.

Leave normal in the rear view mirror and keep it weird on the Portland Oregon Trail!

🛞 And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile...
In Portland, Oregon Trail you are on a once in a lifetime road trip across the United States of America with a group a weirdos like the nerd, the hipster, the activist, and the punk.

What vehicle would you choose for the Portland, Oregon Trail?

🧐You may ask yourself, HOW did I get here?

In Portland, Oregon Trail your vehicle is like any other character in the game.

It gets its own die and has its own personality and edges. A large vehicle will have big trunk space and plenty of leg room but get worse mileage. A small vehicle will have a smaller gas tank and won’t have a very solid chassis, but it will get you across the country faster.

  • THE TIN CAN (d4) - This tiny vehicle has great mileage but it breaks down easily.

  • THE COMPACT (d6) - not too big, not too small. It's the real Goldilocks of cars.

  • THE WAGON (d8) - A vehicle big enough to be a pain to parallel park but not so big that you’re scared of an overpass.

  • THE TANK (d10) - Monsters on the road, these gas guzzlers eat speed bumps for breakfast.

😫You may ask yourself, HOW do I work this?

Your vehicle has unique characteristics, or edges. It is a TTRPG character after all.

Each vehicle gets two edges. These are bonuses you didn’t even know were in this car! These Edges can be used to give your vehicle advantage on Actions and Saves. So hopefully you don’t get a lemon.

😘You may ask yourself, THIS is not my beautiful wife?

Give your vehicle a name. Make it fit on a license plate. Develop a para-social relationship with it. This does nothing but make you feel bad when your car gets hurt.

🚘 Are you on the Portland, Oregon Trail?
Welcome to Portland, Oregon Trail.  Over the next few weeks we will be revealing more about the game such as character creation, unique mechanics, game master tips, designer influences, and planned rewards for this campaign.

As with our other Funshot TTRPGs, you'll get everything you to need to run and play Portland, Oregon Trail in an affordable $20 softcover (in this economy!) or eco-friendly PDF!

Portland, Oregon Trail uses the polymorph system, so if you've played our other games (Mazes, Pigeon's Eleven, Sentai & Sensibility, Rebel Scum, etc.) you already know how to play!

Who would you be on the Portland, Oregon Trail?

Everyone’s got a road trip specialty, whether it’s the licensed backseat driver or the aux cord DJ. Your Seat on this trip is represented by a polyhedral die.

You’ve got four seats to pick from:

  • The Nerd: d4
    • Most likely to be holding the GPS and probably the only one who knows what a spark plug does

  • The Hipster: d6
    • Most likely to be non-stop talking, and the only one who knows how to reach Sparky the plug.

  • The Activist: d8
    • Most likely to be behind the wheel, and the only one who knows a spark plug breaks a car window.

  • The Punk: d10
    • Most likely to be flipping off that asshole in the other lane, and the only one with SPRK PLUG tattooed on your knuckles.
