Your painting quickly becomes a puzzle of competing ideas. A leaf wants a broad color area, bees love being surrounded by sunflowers, and ladybugs prefer a little space of their own. Then the shared objectives pull your attention toward edges, rows, colors, connected groups, and other patterns that can suddenly make a tile much more valuable than it looked a moment ago.

That makes the strongest move rarely obvious. A tile can improve your canvas, send your brush racing ahead, or prepare you for a goal that may become important later, and the player furthest along the Sunflower Field gets to choose which new objective everyone will score next. You’re constantly deciding whether to protect the plan you started with or bend your painting toward a better opportunity.

THE FIELD KEEPS TURNING

Time Cards determine which tile size is available, then the shared field rotates as the day moves forward. Since double tiles cannot be turned when you place them, timing can matter just as much as choosing the piece you want.

The rotation occurs after everyone completes the current Time Card turn.

EVERY TILE CAN DO MORE

The most satisfying placements rarely solve just one problem. One tile can improve an objective, grow the right color area, connect more sunflowers, and push your brush farther at the same time.

This is one of the game's strongest selling points because it describes the actual little moment of satisfaction the player is hunting for.

YOU HELP SHAPE THE NEXT GOAL

Reach the front of the Sunflower Field and you get to choose the next Additional Objective from two options. It scores for everyone, but you get the first chance to steer the table toward the painting you have already built.

This is precisely the kind of mechanic that distinguishes Sunflowers from dozens of other peaceful-looking tile-laying games.

A BOARD THAT FEELS LIKE A PAINTING

Each turn adds another patch of hand-painted color, until your personal board becomes its own sunflower landscape. Different tiles and changing objectives pull every game in a slightly different direction, so the finished canvas feels like something you actually composed.

FOLLOW THE TIME CARD

At the start of each part of the round, reveal the next Time Card. It tells everyone whether they must choose a Single Tile, a Double Tile, or can choose between the two.

Nothing useful available? Before taking your tile, you can move your Brush Token back two spaces to refresh the eligible tiles. Sometimes giving up progress is exactly what you need to rescue your painting.

CHOOSE YOUR TILE. KEEP ITS DIRECTION

Take one of the available tiles and place it anywhere on your personal board. It does not need to connect to tiles you have already placed, so you can work on different parts of your canvas at the same time.

Double Tiles are the catch: you must keep the exact orientation they had in the Sunflower Field. As the central field rotates between Time Cards, pieces that were awkward earlier may arrive from a much better, or much worse, direction later.

TURN SUNFLOWERS INTO PROGRESS

Once the tile is down, look at the color areas extending from it. Sunflowers in those areas move your Brush Token forward on the Sunflower Field, so the right placement can create far more progress than the tile might suggest at first glance.

That progress matters throughout the game. It earns you coins at the end of the round, and the player furthest ahead gets to choose one of two new Objectives that everyone will eventually score.

LET THE PAINTING EVOLVE

At the end of each of the first three rounds, a new Additional Objective joins the three Objectives that were there from the start. Your perfect plan can suddenly become less important, or a pattern you built almost by accident can become extremely valuable.

After the fourth round, score your coins and all six active Objectives. Leaves reward their color areas, bees love nearby sunflowers, ladybugs prefer some breathing room, and the Additional Objectives reward different patterns across your finished canvas. Most points wins.
