PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Our film is a 2D animated short inspired by the stories of foster youth in Los Angeles—the foster-care capital of the nation. Weaving both grounded realism and imaginative fantasy together, the film follows two brothers separated by the system as they search for reconnection, redemption and belonging. Created by LA-based filmmakers experienced in serving the foster population, the story draws from real experiences mentoring foster youth. With fantastic, otherworldly imagery and intimate storytelling rooted in real human experience, our film aims to raise awareness, empathy, and hope for vulnerable children in our city.
WHY THIS FILM MATTERS
Over 30,000 children are currently in LA County’s foster-care system. Tragically, the system is often a pipeline into homelessness, incarceration, teen pregnancy, mental-health struggles, and a lack of long-term support—issues that are already major challenges in our city. With this film, we hope to illuminate both the realities and the incredible resilience of these young people through a story that is accessible, emotionally resonant, and visually stunning—inviting viewers to see foster youth not as statistics, but as heroes.
