This is my first game as Executive Producer & Creative Director after 30+ years in the game industry. This has quickly become a labor of love combined with an obsessed calling to bring this to reality and pay it forward.
My intent is to entertain and inform, bringing a societal benefit based on my experience in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita when my grandfather enabled his family to have a much better experience than most without power, refrigeration and limited food for almost two weeks.
In modern America, we’re wrapped in comforts. All supported by a network of systems, supply chains and infrastructure. And what we’ve been discovering recently is that the network is pretty damned delicate.

My family got a preview of this more than 20 years ago during Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Four generations of his family packed in a 4 story brick townhouse. They could have evacuated (and been trapped in gridlock that people still talk about). Instead they decided to stay. And who had the knowledge and skills to help them navigate the aftermath? My grandfather, who, when asked, said “I spent the first sixteen years of my life without electricity, boy. We didn't call it 'prepping.' We just called it living."
Fast forward to the world today. It’s been clear to most of us that old systems are under strain. Strain from climate change, political strife, technologic change and much more. Most recently, the war with Iran and the shutting of the Strait of Hormuz are making energy markets tremble. And gas and diesel prices are skyrocketing because of it.
So why a game?
Being prepared is serious business. But sometimes, it’s hard to face that sort of thing. SOHESS is education but it’s also entertainment. It’s edutainment! Players get to challenge themselves and each other all while learning critical skills from how to preserve food without refrigeration to how to stretch a grocery dollar when prices are skyrocketing.
