Smoke Test Going out Immediately
Good morning!

We're still working on getting our prototype finalized for photos and shipping, but we're almost there. There's just a lag between making our revisions and getting our physical prototypes even when we pay for expedited production. We want this game to be beautiful, and we'll share photos of our final prototype as soon as it is where we want to be.

However, we are very close, and we have finished setting up our pledge manager. I will be hitting send on Smoke Tests as soon as I make this post, and we will be sending out all of our surveys tomorrow. Since the initial campaign, we have updated how we calculate taxes as stated in our last post. This does include the fact that we do now have to charge VAT for digital items to stay in compliance with EU taxes since we have added access to a second warehouse location in the UK that offers us IOSS DDP shipping. Here is the tax list for this project as a Google Sheet, so you can the tax prices all in one place. It is rather large because it contains every country on the globe.

We will make another post when we will be closing Late Pledges. Since this will be coming to US backers directly from the warehouse, we have to lock down our counts more than with other projects where we keep late pledges open all the way until the end of fulfillment.

We're very close to getting this game out to you, and we appreciate your patience as live hit us all at once throughout the last year.

Smoke Test and VAT By Item List Coming Soon
Good morning!

We will be sending out our Smoke Test via Pledge Manager very soon. We're working on photos of prototypes to share, but we wanted to get this update out (we missed the end of February update, which was our goal).

As part of putting together the smoke test, we are adjusting how we charge for international shipping. We will be charging the actual tax rates for UK, EU, and AUS rather than adding a flat fee for international orders. These VAT rates do have to be charged at the appropriate rate for digital items.

We will share a spreadsheet in our next update with the rates for each pledge level and add-ons. This update will also serve as a reminder of when surveys are getting sent out.

New Year Update and Apologies for Delayed Updates
Good morning!

We'd first like to sincerely apologize for the having such a large gap since our last update. A lot has been going on with RV Games and my personal life (distribution projects and a divorce). We haven't taken a pause on working on the project, we have just lagged in our communication.

We're hoping to order our physical prototype within the next couple weeks. We know that we'll have to make some changes and order another prototype or two until it's how we want it. We will send out surveys via the Pledge Manager once this prototype process is done, so probably near the end of February or the beginning of March. We'll share some photos of the prototype during our next updater once it has arrived.

End of August Update
Good morning!

We have a very short update this month. We apologize for the delay from last month, but there isn't much to report. We are heads down laying out and editing cards, and we hope to order a full prototype by the end of the month. We're on time and doing great, and next month we'll be able to share some more sample work.

Late Pledges continue to be available until we place our POD order for the final games.

May/June Update - Card Art Complete, Layout Starting

Good afternoon!

I apologize for the late update, but I've wanted to shift updates to happen in the middle of the month instead of the end, so we've combined these updates. The most exciting news is that Charles Ferguson-Avery has finished all of the card art!

April Update - Late Pledges Open and WIP Art
Good morning!

We have a quick update this month. We've opened Late Pledges on the campaign page if you missed during the campaign. We will have this open until we complete layout this summer and need to place our order from the manufacturer. We also have some more WIP art from Charles, and it is looking fabulous.

Jack be Nimble

Hit the Road, Jack! is a solo/duet game of adrenaline rush and creeping terror. Of chasing and being chased, of being forced to face your sins or to leave them all behind. It is a game of cat and mouse between two characters that we call the Jacks. This is a game that mentions blood, violence, drugs, crime, and death - both deaths you choose and deaths you don’t.

Jack Be Nimble is the sinner, the criminal, and the one being chased. 

Jack Be Quick is the lawman, the aggrieved, and the one who chases. 

This is their journey cross-country across an empty stretch of highways. By drawing tarot cards and responding to journaling prompts, you will be able to flesh out the nature of these two Jacks, their relationship, and how they deal with whatever the road throws at them.

What's in it?

We are launching a physical edition of the original digital edition of Hit the Road, Jack in the form of a tuck box, 22 tarot-sized cards, instruction and gameplay cards, and simple player markers. All editions of Hit the Road, Jack feature the following:
  • Solo or duet roleplaying as Jack Be Nimble (the one being chased) and Jack Be Quick (the one who chases)
  • Variable game lengths of Short, Medium, Long, allowing players to enjoy a journaling game without extensive burnout 
  • Forty-four prompts based on the upright and reversed Major Arcana, both probing into a character’s psyche as well as giving them situations on the road to handle
  • A narrator speaking directly to the player characters, providing not only instruction but snark, judgment, and occasionally compassion
  • Gameplay and thematic inspiration from Long Haul 1984 (think of Jack as Long Haul’s greased up troublemaker cousin)
  • Four potential endings
