When I was growing up, everyone wanted to "Bend It Like Beckham", but did you know the famous Addidas Predator boot started its life as a training shoe for Under 10's? It was designed by Liverpool footballer Craig Johnson to help young boys and girls who wanted know which part of the boot to hit the ball with to achieve that famous curve and other football effects!
In business, what I explained above is called a "case study" - its something that actually happened behind the scenes that explains a bit about how something works in the world: The " Game behind The Game"
Like Johnson, I decided to make a training device, but one for the industry I have worked in for 25+ years:
The music and media industry. I wanted to explain, to 18-30 year olds, with case studies, how exactly the various sectors of the business work together to make what we call a "star".
What does it REALLY take to "break" an artist? The answer is a mixture of Talent, Distribution deals, good PR, timing, and, of course, luck!
I designed a physical game as a learning resource designed to simulate relationships between groups and events in the music and media industry. The game is played by managing assets and making strategic decisions. Game players develop Artists by adding Distribution and PR Assets to their portfolio, and bringing them to Market when the time is right.
I used the physical game as a learning tool in London , Leicester and in schools in Singapore, and recently have had a chance to develop a digital version. This Backer Kit aims to bring both into production,
Backers will automatically get access to the digital game and a personalised copy of the physical game when its developed, as well as access to custom game designs and characters, and training and learning resources
