I am a Computer programmer living in Phoenix Arizona. I have a 20-year background in Financial Analysis, 5 years as a middle school Math teacher, and over 20 years now in Computer programming. I will shortly be retiring where I will begin working on my hobbies: Model Trains (Disney Trains mostly), Amateur Astronomer, and an avid outdoorsman. I am fairly well known here in Phoenix for my Scouting leadership, scout skill sets, and over 30 years as an adult volunteer in Scouting.
I have backed lots of projects on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and other crowdfunding sites. In part, it's about investing in the future of our world and the creators of these projects, but it's also about the process. I have learned so much about the music world, watched great innovation, and been able to watch and learn from the success and failures (yes, I have lost some money) of these projects. For the small-time investor that I am, I can participate in a world usually reserved for only the elite. I own some stock, but I am never going to be able to walk into the CEO's office of those companies, get a tour of their manufacturing process, and certainly not be privy to their research and development department. Here I can do that, maybe not physically, but virtually. It includes an emotional journey through trials and tribulations and even an occasional learning moment seeing that I have been defrauded. Such courage and creativity should never be suppressed nor should it not be given a moment in the sun.
