Something terrible moves and wakes deep under the business district of Cy, in the enclave of an eldritch cult at the heart of the city's most powerful finance firm and megachurch.
✨Grandma and Grandpa are going away to live in a big resort in the Clouds(TM) where they’ll live happily ever after.✨
Live the afterlife you deserve with Fideistic Transformations, upload your consciousness to our deluxe new virtual retirement community: Elysium! In a word, it really is paradise! Inside you’ll find tennis courts, pedestrian malls, and beach side cantinas created by world class sensovid designers.
Visit your neighborhood outlet store for an info session of our sensory deprivation tank technology and tour of the virtual resort!
Some reported health conditions may arise from extended sensory deprivation tank usage, however allegations of client body disappearance or their replacement with AI simulacra in the virtual realm have been demonstrated to be slanderous lies in Cy’s highest court of law. The repetition of such lies in any form is subject to the Halibut-Kaemer Act to its fullest extent.
Sample Spread - Sewer Pope's Chapel
This zine contains a scenario for Cy_borg, based around a cult operating out of Fideistic Transformations. The powerful organization’s latest business venture, a virtual retirement community called Elysium, is somehow at the center of a web of corruption with ties to an unimaginable terror from beyond the stars.
Sample Spread - Secret Barge Lab
The module contains:
A cult of demon worshipping tech-bros
A network of black market brain dealers and researchers
A cult of sewer dwelling mutants
A finance firm megachurch's basement cult compound
A secret offsite research lab
A virtual resort depth crawl (stretch goal)
A new set of Miserable Headlines (stretch goal)
A cadavercore night club acting as a black market front (stretch goal)
A pantheon of alien gods (stretch goal)
Up to 17 new foes (depending on stretch goals)
Four incredible guest writers (more stretch goals!)
zine mock up
The zine itself will be a 5.5” x 8.5” digest, with estimated 16 to 44 interior pages depending on stretch goals. The module is completely written and playtested, the remainder of the work is to be funded by this campaign. This work involves editing the text and then making it into a zine through art and layout design. It will be printed through Mixam and sent to me for distribution, or printed by a slightly more expensive local print shop.
** 666 Community Engagement Points The Nature of the Galaxy Ship Sticker for all backers. Based on a backer poll and discussion in the Community tab. If we get enough engagement points from votes and comments we will unlock a sticker of an alien starship that Roque Romero will draw based on the poll results and discussion.
** Cross-Collab project with Doors of Dimensia Wilderwhim If you back both of our projects, you will get a collaborative, cross-over adventure location created by both of us. A door into the IT backrooms of the Virtual Resort. Sterile bureaucracy meets cosmic horror. This location will be digital only.
#1 $2000 Virtual Heaven Depth Crawl A set of rollable d6 depth crawl tables describing a virtual retirement community for customers who no longer have need for their physical bodies
#2 $2500 Club Orbital Side Quest Fall down a rabbit hole of throbbing cadavercore dance floors. A club with a back alley chop shop run by black market brain dealers
#3 $3000 The Final Form of the Galaxy Brains A new set of Miserable Headlines based on the plans of a pantheon of planetovore AI alien gods made of the combined brain mass of entire consumed sentient species.
#4 $3250 Broken Plugins by Ratgrrrl Games
Encounters and complications risked by using the Retinal Com Display, including Hyperliminal Adverts (and Hacked versions), Bugdoor Dealers, SCR4PC0DE Errors, and N0L1F3 Nomads.
#5 $3500 d20 People on the Streets by Caelin Araven
All have at least thoughts and opinions about Fideistic Transformations; some positive, some negative. Some will help you out if you can convince them, while others will rat you out if you show your colors.
#6 $3750 Gatcha Trinket Store by John Erwin
A store that sells slight addictive stuff, an analogue to Gacha games and mechanics, but I'm hoping to make it more in line with Cy_Borg and Dead Internet flavor as a whole.
#7 $4000 The Digital Torment Nexus by Wilderwhim
A digital entity created from the seething hatred and loathing of propagandized memes and captured souls forced to merge. Optional superboss that can be encountered by accessing some experimental VR tech created by the Cult of Numbers. Defeating it confers a unique VR Helmet.
#8 $4500 Soundtrack Album by Sacred Bull A CD for all backers. A soundtrack commissioned from doom metal shoegaze band Sacred Bull, who already have one combination Mork Borg module soundtrack album under their belt named Pulvis et Umbra. Wilderwhim, from the band, is also a stretch goal writer for this project. Although Sacred Bull has a more conventional metal band layout with their drums and guitar set up, several members are also accomplished electronic musicians, making them a perfect fit for a Cy_borg soundtrack album. The CD will be fulfilled through Mixonic.
#9 $5000 Album Cover Art by Roque Romero Commissioned from Roque Romero. He will listen to the album and draw something.
#10 $5500 Additional Art by Odds-Bodkins Art Commissioned from my friend and neighbor. You can see his work here.
I am David H. K. Jackson, writer of Dead Internet Theory and many other weird indie games including Roguelike Megadungeon.
Jordan Boschman, editor of Devil's Due: A Space Pirate Haven for Mothership RPG, will provide creative and technical editing.
Roque Romero, whose work has appeared in the Cairn bestiary and Skyrealms, will provide the majority of the art.
Tony Jaguar, a graphic designer who worked on my last project Roguelike Megadungeon, will do the layout and schematics.
I have worked with Roque and Tony on a previous successful project, and I know Jordan a bit already, so I am confident in all our abilities to work together effectively and efficiently.
Stretch goal writers are Ratgrrrl Games, John Erwin, Caelin Araven and Wilderwhim, who I know from various places in the indie TTRPG hobby space.
The shipping material will include a plastic sleeve for the zine and a light cardboard envelope that weighs 4.6 oz with CD and 3.7 oz without.
Shipping cost will be determined at the time of shipping. Estimates on 1/24/26 are $5 for USA, and $23 for CA, $26 EU/UK, $29 AUS, $22 MEX and $25 PHL. I'm willing to try to ship any country and will let you know before charging if your shipping will be outside of this general range.
Fulfillment Timeline
Our estimates for the time it will take to do the commissions we are crowdfunding are:
Layout: 6 weeks Art: 8 weeks Editing: 3 weeks
These things will happen somewhat sequentially, overlapping a little in places too. It is harder to predict the time it will take to resolve edits and and snags that come up in the process. I have got quotes from Mixam and from a print shop down the street from where I live. This stage can take weeks to months depending on how things go.
The album stretch goal is estimated to be the same timeline as Wilderwhims previous album, Pulvis et Umbra, which took 4 months to deliver. The band can work more or less independently with the production of the zine. The CD will be fulfilled through Mixonic.
Estimated delivery of the zine and possible CD and sticker is September of 2026. This is of course with the caveat that we are not doing this full time and have jobs and lives that may take unexpected turns over the following year.
