Get Ready for the Forest Kingdom Coin Dice

Flip a coin, roll a die, build your hoard! I designed this full set of tabletop dice to function as normal polyhedral dice do, but with the form factor of coins. The set includes a d4, d6, d8, d10, d00 (decader), d12, and d20. Each coin has all even numbers on the "heads" side and all odd numbers on the "tails" side, allowing any of them to work as a d2 as well.

The dice set will replicate the variety of metals used in the currency of fantasy role playing games: copper, electrum, steel, silver, gold, and platinum. The designs are meant to evoke the aesthetic of a fantasy forest kingdom. Each coin will be cast in zinc alloy with a two-part mold, plated with an appropriate color, and aged with an antique finish. The basic physical pledge level ($40) includes the seven metal Forest Kingdom Coin dice and free shipping in the United States.

The coin dice may appear difficult to read. This is because of the flattening effect of photography. The result of a dice roll is the highest number on the die, and this is readily apparent in real life because of the 30° dihedral angle between planes on the dice. 

Each coin is a squashed trapezohedron. You may be familiar with trapezohedra from the standard d10 in a dice set. A trapezohedron can be made with any number of even sides four or greater. Luckily, all standard RPG dice have an even number of sides and can be created with trapezohedra.

Do you have a 3D printer and the desire to print your own coin dice? The $10 pledge level will net you the 3D printing .STL files of the Forest Kingdom Coin dice set and the files for the Mountain and/or Ocean Kingdom Coin dice if those stretch goals are unlocked. The .STL package is also available as a $6 add-on if you have already pledged for physical dice.

The domestic shipping cost to the United States is included in the pledge amount. International shipping is an additional charge. Any customs or import duties required by your country are not included, so please be aware of these possible additional costs.

I chose a simple, affordable display box as packaging for these dice. The box will provide superb protection for the dice during shipping. It also pairs with the aesthetic of the dice quite nicely.

The minimum funding goal of this project will pay to create the two-part molds for the Forest Kingdom Coin dice, production, packaging, and shipping. However, a dragon's hoard doesn't look right with the coins of only one kingdom. A true hoard contains the currency of many lands.

When we reach a pledge total of $16,000 USD, the Mountain Kingdom Coin dice set will become available. The 3D printing .STL files for this set will also be added to the digital-only pledge level:

The angular aesthetic of the Mountain Kingdom Coin dice set stands in stark contrast to the sinuous lines of the Forest Kingdom set. Still, they spend at the shop all the same:
