Mutant Apocalypse™ is a 5e-compatible adaptation of the oldest/greatest RPG rules for Gamma-World®-Borderlands™-Fallout™-Thunder-the-Barbarian-and-any-other-post-apocalyptic-science-fantasy-type games! It's full of mutant mayhem, laser blasters, super science, strange wastelands, apocalyptic alliances, and much, much more.

The three vertical smears in the logo is the mark of the mutant horde of Gennis. It was adopted from the mark the bloody, three-fingered hand of Syrus Galoth left on the prison wall of Aden that started a revolution. Syrus lead the mutant revolt that freed mutantkind and established the state of Gennis.

Why do a 5e-compatible version?

Because 5e already has a large community of people who know the rules and know how to use them to create new content. Leveraging the SRD CC v5.1 as the basis of the Mutant Apocalypse rules will foster a community of fans, players, GMs, and creators--and ultimately increase the player base and amount of content available for post-apocalyptic/science-fantasy-type games.

What to Expect

Here is some of the content you will find in the Mutant Apocalypse core rules:

  •  Species: There is a species for just about any type of creature you would want to play:

  • ALI (Artificial Life and Intelligence)
  • Clones
  • EVO (Evolved Animal mutants)
  • Fungoid/Florac (Plant mutants)
  • Husk (Insect mutants)
  • Primes (prime humans)
  • Scabs
  • Tsark
  • Vard
  • Wumps
  • and more.

A Prime Technik, Husk Super Mutant, Evo Mercenary, and Scab Kultist wander the wastelands.

  •  Classes, Feats, and Augmentations: Mutant Apocalypse uses classes, feats, and augmentations (built-in class-level features that allow players to add additional mutant, cybernetic-implants, and superscience powers) to develop your character concepts. The base classes include:

  • Exarch
  • Expert
  • Gunja
  • Kultist
  • Mercenary
  • Nomad
  • Skurgeon
  • Super Mutant
  • Technik

  •  Powers: Powers are the various mutant, super science, and other abilities that different classes use. Mutant Apocalypse uses a defined set of powers for all class features and hi-tech gadgets. All powers have a 0-level, AT Will ability, as well as a 1st-6th level (classes are 1st-12th only), At Level ability. If you have the power (e.g., Force Shield), you can use its At Will and At Level abilities but must expend a power slot to use the At Level version. This makes it simple to mix and match mutations, technology, gadgets, and other class features.

What would the wastelands be without a giant laser snake!

  •  Adventuring Gear: There is loads of great apocalyptic gear, including all the Havoc knives, Krysis armor, fusion rifles, micro missiles, Gyfes, Universal Translators, Hacker-Jacks, Omnipedias, and much more. Gear is separated into antiquities, advanced, and alien (for games that include interdimensional beings).

  • Monsters and Relics: There are plenty of deadly and delightful monsters that will surprise and challenge players--such as the Flarbie, Mantibear, Sorex, Cerebral Mold, Durrak, Glow Frog, Poog, Rippers, Screech Bat, Tronk, Venopede, Wolg, Xombie, and more. There are also lots of high-tech gadgets, antiquities, and alien relics. All of it provides a wealth of adventure and exploration.

A monstrous Gangleon protects its lair.

  • Variations of Play: Mutant Apocalypse can support a wide range of playing styles, including gritty post-apocalyptic, cheeky mutant mayhem, gonzo science fantasy, and everything in between. The core Mutant Apocalypse world is earth ripped inside out by strange, interdimensional energies that have transformed the planet into a mutant wasteland.

  • Good and Evil: The Mutant-Apocalypse world introduces Interdimensional entities--optional good, evil, and chaotic beings who can provide a familiar context for your games. These ancient beings, known as the Blood Gods, Nekroids, Tormentors, Slags, and others, can add a layer of danger and interest to more WAHOO! games.

The flesh eating, soul crushing Nekroid legion.

  • The Mutant Apocalypse World and the Red Cliff Outpost: The book also includes an overview of the Mutant Apocalypse world and the Red Cliff Outpost, a great starting point for your adventures.

The Southern Wastes, Dune Sea, Lume, Gennis, and the Seven Nation are only a few of earth's wastelands to explore.

  • MASRD or OGL: Our plan is to release an SRD (CC) or an OGL so that everyone can create together.

  • Best of All: Since the rules are an adaptation of the 5e rules, there are tons of monsters and adventures that can be easily adapted for play.

Artwork

Visualizing the insanity of the Mutant Apocalypse is a top priority. There will be lots of fantastic artwork in this book, produced by Homebrewed Games and other artists around the world.
