Welcome to a world where every transgression leaves a mark, and every atonement has its price. Mea Culpa is a dark tabletop RPG set in a grim, pseudo-medieval realm drifting through the cosmos on the back of a sleeping god. There is no sun or natural light here—days and nights span weeks, and humanity teeters on the edge of faith, despair, and madness.

In Mea Culpa, every hero is a soul burdened by a past of sins, mistakes, and spiritual wounds. The sins committed by the player characters manifest as Shadows: supernatural entities, monsters, and sinister echoes that not only haunt them day after day but also reshape the world itself. This is a tale of striving to hold onto one’s humanity when everything around you is corrupted by the Void—an alien, incomprehensible force that taints all magic, creatures, and curses.

The game uses an original mechanic based on pools of six-sided dice (d6), where a success is rolling at least one matching pair. This system captures the tension, risk, and fickleness of fate in a world where nothing is certain—even your own reflection.

Core themes:
  • Sin as the narrative core: Each character has committed a crime whose echoes relentlessly pursue them.
  • The Void as a corrupting force: Magic, monsters, artifacts, and visions all carry the stain of decay.
  • Shadow as a personal adversary: Every hero has their own nemesis—a creature shaped by their own guilt.
  • Lengthening days and nights: The absence of a constant sun shapes societies, religions, rituals, and daily life.
  • Gothic horror atmosphere: A mood of isolation, mysticism, spiritual struggle, and moral quandary.
  • The world as a sleeping god: Literally—the planet itself is the body of a dormant divine being.

Mea Culpa is not just a fight for survival—it’s a journey into the depths of the soul, where “Should I?” becomes as crucial as “Can I?” It’s a story of sin, guilt, and the hope that redemption may yet be within reach.
