Project Update: Well, we missed the mark but it was fun trying! 🍕🔥

Thank you so much for backing this project!

We're 2 hours from the end of the campaign and almost $30,000 from meeting the funding goal ... I think it's safe to call it over, don't you?

It has been a fun ride though! Sharon and I just made four pizzas in the Fire Pit Grill pizza oven attachment – all in record time – and I'm happy to say that I've dialed in the temps better than ever. If the existence of this little pizza machine was the only thing to come out of this campaign, I'd still call it a success.

I'm dedicated to figuring out how to get grills together for those of you who backed and still want to take a grill home. I can't promise that I'll be able to make all of the options available – after all, that is what the $55,000 goal was all about. But I'll do my best. Anyone who is interested, please email me at [email protected] to discuss details.

The kind folks at BackerKit wanted you to know that you may see some confusing wording around your pledge. But since this is an all-or-nothing funding model and I failed to reach the all-or-nothing goal, you will not be charged anything for this campaign. As they put it, "you will still see a record of your pledge for now, but rest assured that the card on file won’t be charged."

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you and the support you've given us by backing this project.
I hope to be working with many of you soon to make a few cool custom grills.

Thank you from me (Ted) and the Fourneau Team

Project Update: One week left for the Fire Pit Grill

Hi Backers,

We've got one week remaining to fund the Fourneau Fire Pit Grill. The goal is far away so any hopes of reaching it are slim.

As someone who backed the project, I'd really like to know where you would like us to go from here.

  • What changes should we make to the product if we continue to develop it?

  • If we're able to offer one-off products after this campaign (hand-made not manufactured) would you want one?

  • What components would you want?

Your feedback is hugely valuable to us. Please send your thoughts in a comment or in an email to [email protected]

Very best, Ted

Project Update: 12 days to go - two favors to ask

Hi Everyone, I can't tell those of you who have backed the project, how thankful I am to have your support.

I have two favors to ask of you:

1) Is there anyone you can recruit to join the campaign? If each backer brought 1 new backer in, we'd likely reach our goal!

2) I want to know what we should be doing differently. What aspects of the campaign, visual communication, product design do you think we need to improve?

Happy Friday! Ted

Project Update: 🍕🍕🍕 PIZZA OVEN PROTOTYPE 🍕🍕🍕

I built a few different prototypes before arriving at this one.
Yes, the appearance is rough, but geez this functional prototype really performs nicely.

So here it is, the Pizza Oven attachment for the Fourneau Fire Pit Grill!

We love this thing so much that we've decided to offer it to you now as an add-on for $250.

We estimate this attachment will cost about $350 when manufactured. If you want one, just increase your pledge by $250.
No doubt the design needs more work, but if you back us now, you'll get to have input in the rest of the design process.

What is left for us to do?
  • Upgrade the steel to stainless steel
  • Experiment and decide between steel and cordierite for the baking surface and ceiling material
  • Refine the slider and pivot hardware
  • Massage the form to make it a little more beautiful

What do we need you to do?
  • Share your feedback to make sure it does what you want it to do (write your comments below!)
  • Share the campaign! We aren't going to be able to produce ANY of this stuff if we don't reach our $55,000 goal

Take care, Ted

Project Update: Fresh prototypes – starting with the vertical skewers! 🍢

Hello Backers! We got started on the new features prototypes and dang have we had fun!

To start: the vertical skewer holder

I welded a rolled-ring into the bottom of the Fire Pit Grill's core cylinder. As the second point of contact, this holds the skewer at an angle that keeps the food right over the fire bed. I loaded a marinated pork loin onto the skewers which I made fresh from steel bar so that they were the right length.

The things works beautifully!

I rotated and flipped the skewers through the cook and they produced a really even cook. I took the skewers off a little early and the meat at the very center of the line wanted a little more cooking. Since it was lunch time, I simply cut off the meat closest to the ends and slid the rest into position to keep cooking. I wish you could taste them!

We popped this video onto our Instagram (@fourneauoven) as well to make it easy to share with friends!

The goal is still a long way away, so please take a few minutes tonight to share the campaign with your community and with any groups you think would like it.

Thank you for joining the campaign and supporting the project!

Project Update: The ring grill prototype!

Well, okay, two-thirds of the ring grill ... I ran out of wire!

I couldn't be happier with the performance of this thing. Getting the fire going was super easy thanks to the Fire Pit Grill design. I cut my firewood in half to make is supper easy to throw little chunks in and keep the cooker fueled. Of course, you could add some coals to this fire to maintain it too.

The big challenge now: Getting the project funded.
We all want that to happen, so please share the project far and wide!
If you like these videos (they are all on our YouTube channel and on instagram) share them with your communities!

After sharing, please leave some comments about the new prototypes.
Let me know what you'd like to see turned into an add-on reward.

Ted

Project Update: The rotisserie prototype. Another winner 🍖

Hello backers.

Yes! It was a busy 4th of July weekend in the Fourneau lab. I hacked an off-the-shelf rotisserie motor and components to prototype this attachment for the Fire Pit Grill. The results were astoundingly delicious and I believe this attachment needs to become an option for the Fire Pit Grill.

Check out the video here on YouTube!

Project Update: Food inspiration: HIGH HEAT wok cooking right over the fire 🥘

You'll hear us talk a lot about how hot you can get a cooking surface when you are cooking right over a flame and a bunch of hot embers. That kind of heat does the trick when you're getting into a stir-fry. You want to get some char on the outside of the food you're cooking but you don't want to over cook it. High heat and tossing is the answer.

The Fourneau Fire Pit Grill IS THE WAY when it comes to making a stir-fried dish. Aren't you glad you backed?!

Project Update: Food inspiration: HIGH HEAT chill treats – shrimp cocktail 🦐

Shrimp cocktail can be a wonderfully refreshing hot-weather meal.

We captured the flavor of the grill for the tomato-based cocktail by blackening tomatoes and peppers.

Then we quickly seared the shrimp in the same plancha for perfectly cooked shrimp in a chilled, heat-quenching cocktail.

The recipe can be found on the Fourneau blog.

Enjoy!

Hi You have a great idea here thanks Have you thought about offering different sizes of grills, you have such a great surface to work with. Also there is a grill that moves up and down.

Project Update: We need your design help – choose what we prototype next! 👨‍🏭

👇👇👇 Illustrations below 👇👇👇

One of the things we like about the Fire Pit Grill is its simplicity.

It’s a grill stripped down to the basics, designed to do two things really well; build fires and grill tasty foods.

From a design point of view, the simplicity of the Fire Pit Grill creates an opportunity – just as it serves as a foundation for your cooking fire, it can serve as a platform for add-ons. Its basicness makes it a perfect chassis for specific pieces of hardware that add functionality.

We’ve launched this campaign with the basic elements in place, but they are just the tip of the iceberg. You see, we want this campaign to be about more than just raising money from backers, we want this project to be about developing an idea together.

To get this 🔥 started Ted has scribbled out three of the add-ons we’ve been toying with.

Prototyping is not a guarantee of anything! It is part of setting up an experiment which puts a hunch or a hypothesis to the test. Who knows what we will learn during this process! But we think it will be fun to do it together. 👨‍🏭

Tell us which of these you want to see prototyped most! 🔥🔥🔥

Know someone who would enjoy weighing in – copy and paste this link to share the project!
