I have finally returned from GenCon and returned with an ENNIE award for The Painted Wastelands Player's Guide! GenCon was a whirlwind and I met many great people. I had an amazing time.
I just sent out a smoke test. If you didn't get an email, expect the Pledge Manager to go out by the end of this week. It's my goal to charge cards once the majority of backers have completed their surveys. I will give you a heads up before I do it.

The ENnies Emporium has come to a close. We sold out of Limited Edition Painted Wastelands covers and raised $13k! We are going to put those funds to good use. We are going to spend money on advertising our next project. Stay tuned to this space because we will be announcing more in the next few weeks!

It takes 2 weeks for the funds to completely release. During that time, please make sure your credit card information is up to date. Otherwise you won't get anything! After the two week period ends I'm going to send out the Pledge Manager. This time I will ship the projects from Arizona. I had a meeting with a fulfillment company in Germany but it did not go well. Our business was too small for them. I have two more meetings tentatively lined up. I am working hard to find an alternate solution for European backers.
The Pledge Manager is going wrap up quickly! It is my goal to have this stuff shipped out by the end of September. So make sure you fill it out, especially if you ordered a shirt! I need to know your size.
I already ordered the enamel pins and I look forward to getting them. They're going to be great.

New Painted Wastelands Shirt
Tim has designed us a new shirt for the ENnies Emporium. This new design is currently exclusive to this project and not available anywhere else. It's going to be time locked and won't be available through my website until everyone here gets their shirt.
If you're a fan and you already have The Painted Wastelands books and only want the shirt, I created a $1 pledge level. Just back at that level and add the shirt. After the project ends you'll be asked to pick a shirt size.

Development of my Beautiful Boy
Last year I was deep in the trenches writing Empire of Bones. It has consumed a lot of my time and energy. I decided I wanted to produce a small project, just a little something on the side. I also wanted to support my friend John Leibee, so I hired him to write Strange Tales of the Painted Wastelands. Strange Tales is a beautiful zine and the fact that it wasn't nominated is wild to me.
The Player's Guide was developed because I needed to solve a problem. While The Painted Wastelands is predominately a Referee facing product, it still has a lot of player info in it. This is a problem when you're trying to run the game and players need to keep borrowing your book to look up their Oneiromancer spells. I decided to pause writing Empire of Bones so that I could do a little side project.
The Painted Wastelands assumes out the gate your players are fish out of water who have no clue what's going on. It's designed to throw them into the deep end with no safety net. You can easily run it as a side jaunt in the middle of your home campaign before throwing them back to wherever they were originally. The Player's Guide presents information on playing a character that's actually from The Painted Wastelands.
The Cover I had a pretty clear vision of what the cover would look like. The Laughing Spider is one of the monsters Tim came up with on his own and I gave it monster stats. It was a pure horror straight from his subconscious. For the cover I pitched him slapping the guy up front and center. The characters are facing away from us so that player's can visualize themselves in the roles.
New Races and Classes I created 4 new races: The Desert Weirdo, The Oneiri, The Transdimensional Tourist, and The Dreamer. I decided to reprint the Oneiromancer and the Cat class, while adding the Nightmare Slayer. The Nightmare Slayer is a classic Tim idea. You can find lots of paintings on his Instagram of sexy ladies holding the heads of dead nightmares.
Voting We have some tough competition in this race. I am counting on all of you to vote for The Painted Wastelands when you get a chance. I also want you to vote for Severed Books Sickest Witch. We have formed an evil alliance. Justin Sirois is a really cool person and I've gotten to know him over the past year through the internet. He's just a guy making stuff just like I'm making stuff. Neither of us are part of large corporations or big youtubers with massive follower counts. These nominations mean the world to us and we'd love to see your support when voting opens.
I just wanted to take a moment to address a mistake I made when setting up the shipping rates. Due to the way Backer Kit is set up, the listed shipping rate to EU countries was $65 which was not what I intended. I was able to access the shipping set up page and reset it to $37.77. The good news is that your card was not charged and this should have no impact on our fulfillment. If your pledge still lists a higher shipping amount let me know via message or email (listed down below).
Shipping For HELLCRAWL As a reminder, we are working together with Studio 2 publishing, who are located in Kentucky. They have a warehouse and handle distribution for Agamemnon Press to game stores. They're a pretty large company and I trust their work, you can see their massive space at GenCon where they take up a whole alley to themselves! I decided to partner with them because we have over 900 backers, which is more than I could handle on my own, especially during the school year. We are on track to start fulfillment via Studio 2 publishing in Fall 2026.
No Import Fees Another benefit of working with Studio 2 is that they will cover import fees for international customers. Another attractive reason to work with them since this is something I've never been able to do in the past. Their message to me specifically was: "We cover VAT and Duties to consumers so the customer does not have fees on their end."
Faster Delivery Times Studio 2 uses FedEx International Connect Plus that typically delivers in 2-5 days. Meanwhile, when I do shipping myself I generally use ePost Global which is cheaper, but can take 13-20 days and has limited tracking. Because of this, the shipping fees are higher than my previous projects but I believe the end result is better. No import fees and faster delivery.
In the Future I understand this still may be a disappointment. I'm going to make sure to be more open about estimated shipping costs in the future. When I started the HELLCRAWL project, I wasn't sure if I would do it myself or use a third party for fulfillment. Now that I know, I will list specifics on our project pages.

Is it possible to get the referee screen added as an add-on? Would love to get the bigger pledge but going for the limited copy of Painted Wastelands and I don’t think my brain can hold 2 copies worth of its content, let alone one! That way I can indeed go nuts and build my own version of the pledge!
