=FUNKENSTEIN LIVES=

IT’S ALIVE. NOW MAKE IT YOURS.

Most knives arrive with their personality already decided. You pick a model, choose a color, and that’s pretty much the end of the conversation.
But we’re knife nuts. Sometimes we want titanium. Sometimes we want copper. Sometimes we want something that looks like it escaped from a mad scientist’s laboratory while the scientist was distracted by a guitar solo.
So we designed Funkenstein: a family of titanium folding knives built around our Roundhouse Lock, with interchangeable accents and optional magnetic Knockout Inlays that let you assemble a creature of your own.
Choose your size. Choose your configuration. Then start experimenting.
We’ll provide the parts. The questionable taste is entirely up to you! 🤘🤓
Edit

=CHOOSE YOUR SIZE=

Funkenstein comes in three sizes, because “the perfect size” tends to depend on whose pocket you’re asking.

Bride of Funkenstein is the smallest member of the family, offering the same customization concept in a more compact package.
Funkenstein occupies the middle ground, giving you room to work while keeping the overall package more manageable than its oversized sibling.
Funkenstein’s Monster is the largest creature in the laboratory. It also has a particularly unusual trick hiding along its spine: a sliding Blade Hammock that allows its 5-inch blade to nest into a 4.5-inch handle.
Edit

=CONFIGURATION OPTIONS=

Each size is available in four configurations:
  • Satin with Knockout Inlays: A satin blade and titanium handle with pockets for our magnetic, interchangeable inlays.
  • Blackwash with Knockout Inlays: A blackwashed blade and blackwashed titanium handle with the same interchangeable inlay system.
  • Satin with a solid handle: A satin blade and solid titanium handle without inlay pockets.
  • Blackwash with a solid handle: A blackwashed blade and solid blackwashed titanium handle without inlay pockets.
That gives you 12 starting options across the family.
The solid-handle versions give the design a simpler appearance, while the inlay versions open up another layer of customization. All versions retain interchangeable accents, so even a solid-handle Funkenstein can get dressed up for a different occasion.

=KNOCKOUT INLAYS=

We love the idea of a knife that can change along with your tastes. What we don’t love is having to disassemble the whole thing every time we want a different look.
Our Knockout Inlays use magnetic retention, allowing you to change the inlays without taking the knife apart.
The inlay versions have four individual inlay positions. Match them for a coordinated look, pair different materials, or mix all four. A little copper here, a little carbon fiber there, and suddenly your knife has developed a personality that may require supervision.

We’re offering a range of materials so you can take your build in several different directions:
Titanium keeps things clean and metallic, with the opportunity to coordinate with the rest of the knife.
Copper and brass bring warmth and contrast, developing their own character as their surfaces age.
Micarta adds a different texture and a more understated look.
Carbon fiber offers everything from a familiar woven appearance to more colorful patterns that fit right into the Funkenstein laboratory.
Timascus brings swirling color for those who feel that a knife can never have quite enough personality.

=ROUNDHOUSE LOCK=

Since we debuted our Roundhouse Lock in 2023, the Roundhouse Lock has become well-known for its crisp detent, smooth action, solid lockup, and safe lock disengagement, and satisfying closing action.

Here's how it went down. In early 2023 Michael met Laura from Scikio at SHOT Show. After mentioning that he was in the process of designing a pivot-based locking system, Laura pulled out a secret prototype of a pivot-based button lock, and Michael was hooked. The opening action was so crisp, the closing was so smooth, and overall it was a fidgeter's dream. Since Laura was looking for partners to use the new lock, it was a no-brainer. We started with higher end knives like Truffles and HiveMind, and now we're bringing the incredible Roundhouse Lock action to a budget-friendly knife.

Just because it's fidgety doesn't mean it can't pull its own weight - actually it can support about 400x its weight according to a failure test performed by Calculated Survival!

=M390 Blade=

Steel selection matters, but we also wanted actual information about the material in our prototypes. Taylor of Steel Hardness Lab tested our DreamTech M390 sample at 60.7 and 61.0 HRC, averaging 60.85 HRC, or approximately 60.9 HRC.
Those are measurements from the tested sample, rather than a guarantee that every production blade will read exactly the same.
Hardness is one useful part of evaluating a blade. It doesn’t tell the entire heat-treatment story, but we wanted to share the measurements with you rather than simply putting a steel name on the page and calling it a day.

=PRODUCTION TIMELINE=

We estimate that knives will arrive in customers’ hands in June 2027, with final preparation and shipping beginning in May. This timeline is an estimate and may shift as production progresses.
