Hey! I’m here to announce a new (small) project, and update everyone on what I’ve been working on.
Courtesan’s Guild
I’m incredibly excited to announce the Courtesan’s Guild. It’s about an organization of courtesans (duh) and other sex workers who double as spies and assassins. Courtesans mingle with high society as well as the criminal underworld, but really belong to neither.
As allies, the Guild will sell you information, gear, and disguises. They’ll also provide a place of refuge, quest hub, and lead players to stories they might not have found otherwise. As enemies, the Guild will wage a secret war against you. They’ll spread rumours, tip off your enemies, and send assassins after you. Doubt every new face, and sleep with one eye open.
Cool, but What’s Actually in It?
Good question! Courtesan’s Guild is a small, 30~ page project. It will include the following:
Subclass for Rogues (the titular courtesan!)
4 Unique NPCs, each with their own stat block
A bunch of guild henchmen, like apprentices and elite guild members
Guild services, like equipment rentals, information, and resting bonuses (sorry, no sex)
Art
I’ve partnered with the talented Vinícius Campos to do the artwork. He created some fantastic pieces for Sins, one of them being the Hospital of Quiet Minds full page spread. We’re still very, very early in the process, but I’ll attach some of the concept and sketch work below.
Why the Courtesan’s Guild?
The Courtesan’s Guild is something that’s always been close to my heart. Although not horror, I’m certain this supplement will offer something unique and interesting to fans of Cult of the Blood Queen and Sins of Our Mother.
I want to reiterate that I’m not done with horror, but I do need a small break. Sins took a lot of creative power. I need to spend some time with other genres before making my way back.
VTT Poll & the Succubus Patron for Warlocks
Thank you to everyone who voted in the VTT poll! The results were tied, but I’ve decided to go with the Foundry VTT. I understand there’s a lot of great options out there, but Foundry gives 3rd party creators the most flexibility in creating content.
I’ve started messing around with it in my spare time. Once I feel comfortable with the software, I’ll create and share a free compendium for the Succubus Patron subclass.
Sins of Our Mother 1.3 Update
I’m in the process of tweaking the classes to make their features and abilities more clear, as well as fixing a few oversights. I’ll upload Sins 1.3, and post about it when it’s complete. Please look forward to it!
Future of Catacolyte Games
I’m moving away from crowdfunding for the foreseeable future. I’m incredibly grateful for it putting me in touch with all of you, but I’m worried my strengths don’t play well to Backerkit and Kickstarter. Instead, I’ll be pivoting to work on small supplements like Courtesan’s Guild.
That’s it for now! Thank you everyone for your support! I hope you all have a great weekend.
All Sins of Our Mother rewards have been fulfilled! It’s time to move onto the next thing. I have a few exciting ideas in the works, but that's for another time. I’m releasing a FREE Warlock subclass to celebrate finishing Sins and opening Catacolyte’s new online store.
Behold Warlocks, your new Master, Meredith!
Meredith the Succubus
Succubus Patron
Whereas Warlocks traditionally specialize in machine gunning Eldritch Blast every turn, Meredith's retainers (that's you) take on a support role. They can buff their allies with a new condition called Devotion, or hinder enemies with spells like Command, Sleep, Slow, and Confusion. Warlocks grant their allies Devotion by targeting their allies with Eldritch Blast. Here's the condition in more detail.
"Devotion. The creature is filled with an agonizing passion, spurring them to greater heights. They add your proficiency bonus to their attack rolls."
Don't worry about killing your level one party members. Meredith's retainers can choose to reduce their Eldritch Blast damage to just 1d4. Your in-combat gameplay pattern requires carefully reading the situation, and then determining what's most needed in that moment. Accuracy? Deal an ally damage with Eldritch Blast and grant them Devotion. Crowd control? Cast Sleep, Confusion, or another one from your Extended Spell List options. Damage? Well, reliable old Eldritch Blast gets the job done.
Meredith grants her retainers 5 class features as they level up, and can hone their subtle manipulations even further with 7 Eldritch Invocations.
Embrace temptation and download the Succubus Patron for Warlocks from Catacolyte's new store! Simply click the link or navigate to www.catacolytegames.com. Once there, add the Succubus Patron for Warlocks to your cart, and checkout. It's free, but it'll still ask you for a billing address (for legal reasons). Once done, a download link will appear on the thank you page. You'll receive an email with the link as well so you can download it anytime. No limits!

Catacolyte’s New Store
The new store is live! Finally, Catacolyte has its very own marketplace. Currently, the store offers the Sins, Cult, and Succubus PDFs, or order the Sins Class Pack. In the coming months, I’ll be adding more products so make sure to check it out every once in a while.

Sins Retrospective & What’s Next?
Sins of Our Mother took almost two years of development. It was fun, but I’m pivoting to towards smaller, well-focused projects. These will be more in the vein of Cult of the Blood Queen, which was a little under 50 pages. I’ll still strive to create evocative and immersive stories and characters, but I’m not ready to tackle another gargantuan project.
The good news is I can release more frequent projects, and explore more topics and find new things Catacolyte can offer players.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks!
Physical Rewards
I've shipped out every single class pack, so please be on the look out. U.S. backers will receive their's first (likely within the week). Backers outside the U.S. will receiver their's second. Please give it to two to three weeks. If you don't receive your reward, or received damaged goods please reach out immediately.
I’ve got a lot of good news! Let’s talk Class Pack shipping, Sins version 1.1, and an upcoming free Warlock subclass.
Shipping
The Class Packs have arrived, and they look and feel fantastic. Eastar Games did a great job producing the cards. Check out the images below. I’ve already started packing and shipping the cards out, so please be on the lookout.
Please keep in mind shipping can range from 1 week or less to several depending on your location. Backers from the U.S. will receive their packs first, followed by Backers outside the United States.
If you think your delivery is taking too long or you received a damaged pack, please reach out and we’ll figure out a solution ASAP.
Backers have until end of day Thursday to update their addresses for shipping!
Sins 1.1
Please check your email for a new PDF of Sins of Our Mother. Version 1.1 includes a ton of small improvements. I’ve fixed typos, tweaked the layout, added a new 1st level ability (Will to Flesh) to the Flesh Singer, and included the missing table for the Harlequin Skin legendary armor. This is Sins's final form!
Succubus Patron for Warlocks
While wrapping up rewards for Sins, and figuring out Catacolyte’s next project I’ve had some free design time on my hands… So next week I’m releasing a new, free patron for warlocks: the Succubus Patron! This subclass was a ton of fun to design and playtest. It's got everything I love: warlocks, succubi, the Charm Person spell, and much, much more. Check out the sneak peek attached below. Please stay tuned for more!
Succubus Patron was more than just for fun, though. I learned a lot while working on Sins of Our Mother, and I wanted to synthesize everything into one little project to cement it all in my head. Going forward, Catacolyte products will be smaller, well focused projects more similar to Cult of the Blood Queen than Sins of Our Mother. I’ll still strive to create evocative and immersive stories and characters, but Catacolyte isn’t ready yet to tackle another gargantuan project like Sins.
The bright side is I can release more frequent projects while also exploring what Catacolyte can offer players.
I’m happy to announce that with the 90 day pause on tariffs, Catacolyte can finally move forward with importing the Class Packs! They’ve already left the warehouse and are in transit. Once I receive the shipment, I’ll immediately begin shipping out the Class Pack rewards.
Also, I’ll be appearing on the radio show Orcs & Dorks at 11:00 AM on June 7th to discuss Sins of Our Mother. I’ll go into detail about designing and publishing the book, discuss some of the project’s biggest pain points (and pleasures), and more!
Please tune in (via the Radio Free Brooklyn website) to hear more about how Sins was made and the thought processes that went into producing it. Call-ins are also welcome if you have a burning question and you want the answer straight from the horse’s mouth (we’ll provide a number once on air).
That’s all for now! I’ll have more soon.
Thank you for your continued support, Ashton Baker, Creator of Catacolyte Games
I’m really happy with how the book turned out. The weight’s good. The colors pop (especially the reds). It’s funny how something just feels so much more real when you actually hold it in your hands.
If you backed Sins at the Inquisitor or Hierophant pledge levels (or got the addon), your PoD copy at cost is now ready! Please check your email for a link. It'll come from DriveThruRPG ([email protected]), and look something like this:
Obligatory if you don't see it, check your spam folder. If didn't receive the email, please reach out to me here on Backerkit, via email ([email protected]), or via Discord (catacolytegames) and I'll get it worked out.
It'll take another 3-5 business days for the book and PDF to go up for sale on DriveThruRPG as they're currently reviewing the submission.
