Now Folk Hero is out in the world, I am collecting feedback before I commit it to print.
I always like to try new things in games, and in Folk Hero this was horizontally flipping some of the text to save any inadvertent spoilers in solo play. I'd love to know what you think of this.
The ideas is that you use a mirror or take photo with your phone camera and flip the text.
Does it work? Is it too finicky? Any other comments.
Whichever format we land on for the solo scenarios will likely continue forward as I create new ones.
Let me know any thoughts, comments and suggestions in the comments.
So, the beta PDFs are out. I've used the BackerKit distribution system for the first time ever, so the truth is that I have no idea if I've done this correct.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll let me know.
This version is prettty much where the game will be, bar a proofread (happening over the next few days) and maybe me moving a couple of things or having a stupid idea and adding it last minute.
What happens next?
Well, we are going to try get to print and fulfilment ASAP, so we'll be sending out the 48 hour to charge cards for shipping / add-ons and then we'll be sending everything out to the printers.
You will also receive an updated PDF as soon as we have the finalised version next week.
That's all for now. I'll keep checking the comments sporadically to see if everything is working as planned.
I just wanted to let you know that I have been busy finishing up the beta for folk hero this weekend. I have a couple of pages I want to adjust, so it will now be Wednesday before I release it.
Trust me when I say the last edits take longer than the initial write. This is nothing new. Writing is editing. The good news is that this is a firm date as I have all the pages in and first pass edited. If you want a little more proof, here are the layouts as they stand:
Just a few gaps to fill in and I'm done.
There's a fair bit more content than I originally anticipated, including a total of 40 Monstas and a ton of prompts for use in solo and multiplayer games.
Right, I'm cracking on. I'll post the game on Weds.
While you await The Folk Hero PDF (coming later this month), here is a preview of the weapons available to you. There's also a fun poll at the bottom. Please vote if you can.
I've raided the shed and the kitchen cupboards for these.
Which one is calling out to you and why does it fit you're heroes vibe?

Hi everyone,
So, I know, this update should have happened a couple of months ago.
I'd like to apologise for not keeping on top of updates and set out a clear plan for where we are and where we are going to be.
I’ve been running later than planned with the layouts, and I’m sorry for the delay. I take the trust and support you’ve shown this project seriously, and I know it’s important to keep you informed. I create these games myself, and try to run a small publishing business at the same time.
Managing that time has been a learning cuve for me and I also realise that sometimes I need to stop flaffing around with things and say, that's it, done. A stern rebuke from backers is always the best thing to snap me out of my overindulgence.
I’ve now put together a solid plan and schedule that I’ll be sticking to moving forward, and I’ll keep you updated throughout the process.
The current goal is to have the beta version finished by the 21st of June. I’ll release that to all of you as soon as it’s ready, though please bear in mind it will still need proofreading at that stage. But other than grammar and spelling, it will be as I intend it to be.
Proofreading should take around 7–10 days, which means we’re aiming to release the final PDF around the end of June. We use a professional games proofreader to ensure everything is in order and makes sense.
In the meantime, I’ll also be sharing layout previews and progress updates each week so you can see how everything is coming together. Here are the latest ones:
Once the final PDF is complete, we’ll send the book to print. Printing and fulfilment may take around five weeks, though we’ll do everything we can to keep things moving quickly and get it pushed through as fast as possible.
I'm also going to start ordering any other production items at the beginning of June, so we can start fulfilment as soon as the books arrive.
Thank you again for your patience, support, and enthusiasm for the project. It genuinely means a lot. I always deliver, albeit sometimes late and I will get Folk Hero in your hands this summer.
