I have low-key wanted to print an Oz treasury for years now. The upcoming Printopia 2026 event has finally kicked me into gear.
Did you grow up loving L. Frank Baum’s original Oz books? Do you wish more writers were interested in building on the adventures that happened after the first time Dorothy made it back to Kansas? Are you looking for stories that are, not necessarily “adult” in the sense of explicit sex and violence and political intrigue, but “adult” in the sense that Dorothy and Ozma can grow up and get married?
If yes, this collection is for you.
It's an anthology of 8 different short stories, mostly focused on Dorothy Gale as she grows up in Oz, along with Ozma, Toto, and all her other queer friends. I'm designing the book with 1900s art-nouveau flourishes, and filling it with a bunch of all-new illustrations. You're going to love it.

How to get a hardcover - Last-minute housekeeping - Thank you Mercedes Lackey
Instead of making duplicates of all the paperback tiers, I decided to just make a "hardcover upgrade" add-on that can be applied to any tier.
For new backers: Back the project, click "Back It" under any paperback tier. Once it gives you the "Add to your pledge" menu, pick the "Make Mine a Hardcover" add-on (it should be first in the list).
For people who have already backed: Go to the campaign page, click "Manage your pledge" (it's at the top of the page), choose the "Edit Pledge" button. Clicking "Add additional items" will get you back to the add-ons menu, with the hardcover add-on at the top.
The mini-print poll has two options -- Eureka's Chariot, and the Wedding Party -- in a deadlock for first place! If you haven't voted yet, go help break the tie
And finally, because I want to show it off, this was a very cool BackerKit notification to get in my email:
I'm sure she isn't personally reading all these updates, but just in case...thank you Ms. Lackey, it's an honor, I work at a library and I have shelved so many of your books.
Dorothy and Her Princess in Oz has reached its funding goal!
(Pictured: Dorothy and Ozma getting congratulated by the protagonists of my other crowdfunded books. Eight annual campaigns for Leif & Thorn, one massive omnibus for But I'm A Cat Person.)
I've set the "Let's Make Hardcovers" stretch goalat $2,500. Check out its progress bar here. It's an extra $500 over the original goal, but we're already so close -- let's go for it.
I know the original campaign page talked about hardcover tiers, but since we're so close to the final deadline, I'm going to do this in the form of a simple "upgrade your paperback to a hardcover" add-on.
If we only unlock it at the very last minute, I might not have time to add it to the campaign at all. If that happens, don't worry -- it'll be one of the options in your post-campaign backer survey.
Some things you can do to help the campaign in these final hours:
Make your own posts on platforms I'm not on, linking to the campaign page
Just make your own all-new posts in general! For lots of people, “firsthand hype from a reader who genuinely likes the work” is going to be more convincing than any sales pitch I come up with
Convince venture capitalists that the way to Artificial Superintelligence is, not through Harry Potter fic, but through Dorothy/Ozma fic (listen, it's a long shot, but it can't hurt to try...)
Thank you all so much to everyone who's backed so far! Get those mini-print votes in before the deadline is up, and stick around as we slide this project past the finish line.
The mini-print poll - The FAQ - A bonus ebook for backers
The poll for the mini-print is still running! After the Royal Wedding took an early lead, Eureka and Her Chariot have shot forward to take first place. Will they hold it? Cast your votes and we'll find out.
I got a question about whether Dorothy And Her Princess includes any comics, so I put an answer in the project FAQ. Short answer: no, it's all prose with illustrations. (Unless I get some last-minute comic-inspiration.)
However!
I'm throwing in a free bonus Oz ebook, and that is a comic. I'm not even holding it back until the project funds -- every backer can download it right now.
The first day - Half funded - Celebratory art reveals
Hello, readers! Thank you allfor getting us to 50% funded in the first day-and-a-bit. Printing a short-story collection is a first for me, so it's really exciting to see people turning out.
The rewards include a new Oz mini-print, and like the campaign page says, I'll be doing a poll to decide which illustration gets printed.
This is not the official poll post!
This is a preliminary "BackerKit polls only include tiny images, so here's a proper full-size look at them" post:
A redraw of a much older illustration of mine. Props to anyone who remembers the original.
-
(3) "Suddenly, all becomes clear"
Inspired by one of John R. Neill's original Oz pieces.
-
(4) "It shall be my chariot"
Sometimes Dorothy still visits Kansas, and brings back gifts for her family and friends at home in Oz. Eureka approves.
-
(5) Good morning, princess
This is an older piece of mine, and it's not redrawn. But I've never printed it before, and Dorothy/Ozma fans still like it, so I figure I'd put it in the running.
-
(6) A royal wedding in Oz
The version of this on the book cover is "just Dorothy and Ozma," because I need room for, y'know, the title. Here's the Expanded Wedding Party version.

I'll get the Official Poll up in a few days. But if you already have a favorite, please comment and let me know.
(Don't worry about the size -- whichever art wins, I'll adjust it to make sure it looks good as a 5x7" print.)
