Project Update: Where's the love for 5e?
Hi everyone!
Someone recently asked... where's the love for 5E?
So I figured I would address it here (hopefully they read updates).
Let me start by saying WE LOVE 5E & 5.5E!
Our first 2.5 adventures in Heroic Adventure! series (Evil Never Dies, Vault of the Murderworm, and The Wormfather's Apprentice) have all been converted to 5.5E by Scott Moore and edited by Rachel Savicki, but they aren't ready yet. We're doing gorgeous, full color treatments of both (and combining Murderworm and Wormfather into a single volume with additional content). We're a small shop so these are taking a little longer when balanced against new products as well. We try to have books totally done (or at least close) before launching a crowdfunding campaign so we can turn stuff around relatively quickly. (Even then it's not instant.)
I can show you a preview of the Evil Never Dies cover by Raven Evermoor (Evermoor Arts). Everything is done except the interior art, which is about 50% complete. The plan is to do a catchup campaign featuring BOTH Evil Never Dies and the Murderworm campaign, and of course the other 5E books as add-ons (Carnivorous Cauldron, Veins of the Fallen, etc...) We're just not ready yet.
As for our current campaign, there's plenty to love for 5E.
We have the standard perfect bound adventure in two cover options. Yes, DCC has three, but the third one was a stretch goal from Brett Hess who also does our maps.)
In addition to the standard editions, we have our Deluxe Editions for DCC and 5E. These are available with or without the DCC Dice.
Why no 5E Dice Sets? That's a logistical issue. Our supplier gets them in 14 Die sets specifically for DCC RPG. In order to offer 5E dice, we would need to break up a lot of sets and be left with an equal amount of "Funky 7" sets that wouldn't match anything else. We did that last time and our supplier explained the issue to us and asked us not to do it again, which we agreed to. The good news is, you can totally use the DCC set with your 5E game. I never met a DM that couldn't find a use for weird dice.
We also have Stretch Goals. Many of our stretch goals are applicable to both DCC and 5E.
- Extended Mine Maps will have new art for both DCC and 5E.
- New Patron is a DCC thing, but will be converted to 5E being with some GM notes as well.
- Dwarven Traditions Handout is being converted to 5E.
- New Cult is definitely applicable to 5E. The Eastern Lands (our campaign setting, which we reveal more of in each adventure) has a few cults to contend with. Expect a DCC and 5E book on the Eastern Lands Campaign Setting hopefully next year.
- New Dwarven Pantheon also applies to both. The DCC version includes information on playing a Dwarven CLeric, which 5E doesn't really need, but don't worry, there's still going to be cool stuff for 5E in there. Not to mention a whole new pantheon of Dwarven Gods for The Eastern Lands.
- Surrounding Areas This is supplemental infor for the areas around Grungin and includes both writeups and a map. This is applicable to both DCC and 5E.
- Mystery Stretch Goal is, well... it's technically a secret, but I guess I can spill the beans. If we hit this final stretch gial, we're going to add two additional minis to the minis set. We're adding two Tommyknockers in addition to the 4 Mithril-Born Dwarven Miners. (That's a pretty big reveal. I told you these mines are CREEPY!)
The DCC maps are done and the 5E maps are still in progress. Which is why we don't have much to show for them, but 5E is fully supported with our poster maps as well. I can show you one of them that is finished. This is obviously not a tactical map, but a cutaway that illustrates the overall layout of the mine. DCC on the left, 5E on the right.
It's oribably worth mentioning that all of our DCC books and maps are in B&W, by design. It's part of the aesthetic. The 4E books and maps are in color. It takes longer, and costs more to print, but it lends itself well to the overall look and feel we are going for with 5E (and we aren't charging extra even though they cost us more to make).
So that's where the love for 5E is. We love 5E, (some of) you love 5E, and we're fully supporting it... it just takes longer sometimes.
Tomorrow, look for Designer Diary #1 from Bob Brinkman himself.
Lastly, we're adding a $1 pledge level for folks who just want to show some love or get access to the Pledge Manager. It'll be up soon after you read this.
Until then,
Chris
