A little over halfway through the campaign and we hit the baseline funding!
We are, as all crowdfunders must say, incredibly grateful for the support and hope that we can keep this going! We still have a little over 3 days left, as of this posting, so plenty of time for more.
The first stretch goal is at $4000, which is a little bit of a ways away. Similarly, the social media goal is a bit away with less than 50 out of 100 reposts on Bluesky.
So, I'll make you all a deal. If we hit $2000 and 50 reposts, we'll call the difference split and I'll still put Umbral Patrons in the book. These are Patrons whose sorcerous side is born of a deal with the depths of a realm earthly shadows touch against, and their Freelancers gain a lot of tricky abilities to make combat more dynamic and keep the enemies on their toes.
Time sure is passing by fast, isn't it? We're two and a half days in and nearing our base funding level!
I wanted to take some time, though, to show an example of each of a Weapon and Nemesis that have previously been developed by Superbackers in the original campaign on OtherSite, so you all can see what it can get you. In addition, the ones in this book will have more customization, and the Nemeses will have a more distinct (but optional) magical system around them, too.
When you submit a weapon, you have two options: Tell us approximately what you want it to look like and do and let us create the mechanics, or you can use your existing copy of Paranormal Freelancing (if you have one) and put together the base yourself, and then come up with a special custom Tag you want us to create for it.
The example above we were told to put together a Censer with weaponized magical smoke that also reinvigorates the allies. The 3 Harm part means how much damage it does per successful attack roll, Near Range means the same Area, Stationary means you can't move and attack with this weapon at the same time, Antimagical means it tends to bypass Magical protections, and Bane means it's particularly deadly against the chosen type of creature. When you submit a Nemesis, you primarily tell us who you want them to be and what they do, but given we do have the core book available, if you have some mechanical ideas you can of course submit them; we may tweak it to fit the balance level of a Nemesis though (not that they can't scale). In this case, we were asked to create a headless enemy who could stalk the players through an objective rather than just fighting them once.
Nemeses are unique compared to most enemies, in that they also have "Aevocations," representing the sorcerous magic Patrons and their rival Nemeses use in their day to day. In the core book, these are basically unique tactics on part with how the Narrator can rearrange the fight each round, but to their own benefit, but we'll (as mentioned) have some optional systems for more open ended magic if you want to really force your Freelancers to be clever to defeat the power of such sorcery.
So, if you want to put your footprint into the book, these options are how (as well as the Unique option, if you have other ideas percolating)!
So, our little experiment is off to a decent start. We're about 60%+ into our base goal, making things look pretty optimistic, though we'd love if we could pick up and see the stretch goals as doable. All it takes is a couple superbacker types, so don't lose hope on that.
Since it's been asked, currently the project is in writing stages, so I'll hopefully be able to get you all some previews before the campaign even ends depending on how things go.
On another note, the early backer reward has less than 24 hours left on it, so if you're waiting and seeing, might be worth just grabbing it!
Thanks for all your support so far, and keep it going if you can!
