Crittermon: California Version follows Pepper, a wild two-tailed Vixbee who has been taking care of her younger brother Cookie. It shows a small glimpse of the struggles that wild Crittermons face in nature every day.

Pepper expected that she would take care of Cookie forever and would always be the one solely responsible for him. That is until they met a strange young woman with no Crittermons and surprisingly little protection in the woods alone.

This pilot issue is 24 pages long, fully colored, lettered, and ready to be released. We just want to gauge interest and put comics in people's hands.

Welcome to the World of Crittermon

Crittermon is a new monster-taming world set on the planet Usa. There are fifty main regions and five uncharted zones. There are hundreds of Crittermons that call the planet home. The main regions resemble and share a name with the different states, albeit each one is its own island or group of islands.
Before you proceed further, be warned that this is mostly written for adults. The cute little animals swear sometimes.

Crittermons
The planet Usa has no regular animals. They simply do not exist here. We have created over 400 Crittermons to fill the world and eliminate the need for ordinary creatures. Some are cute and even make good pets, like Vixbee here.

Vixbee is a Lightning and Pest-type Crittermon that has an established, native population in every region and uncharted zone. Some Vixbees produce and store honey in their dens. Vixbees almost universally have a sweet tooth and prefer sugary things over any other food. Vixbees gained mainstream popularity in the 1800s after the folk hero outlaw, Wyatt "Shootin" Starr fought off Deepwater agents in Bandera with the help of his Dragthrax and a Vixbee he'd caught a year prior.

Dragthrax is a rare Blaze and Plague-type Crittermon who grows sharp bone plates over its slimy skin. They are incredibly powerful and are one of the few Crittermons that can naturally use Nuclear type attacks although they lack the defensive Nuclear typing. They are only found deep in swamps, miles from civilization. Despite their fierce appearance, they are mild mannered Crittermons. This is due to their skin and blood toxicity equalling a complete lack of natural predators. In modern days, online streamers frequently take hand-feeding videos with Dragthraxes and their prevo forms, Wyverculosis and Salamanella. They are omnivorous scavengers whose diet consists of rotting matter in the bottom of swamps.

There are eighteen types of Crittermons, and six more types of attacks beyond those that do not have a defensive typing.

"What in the world is that? Why would you show me this horrible thing?" You may be asking. Mangoose here is a Typeless-type Crittermon, and a stark reminder that this world is inhabited by monsters. Mangeese cannot fly. Instead, they run on all four of their muscular limbs with incredible speed. Mangeese are avid climbers and swimmers and are highly territorial. They build nests near bodies of water and lay large eggs. They have a reputation for being extremely persistent.

This Crittermon is Alligator. Alligator is a Dino and Water-type Crittermon that lives in the swamplands of the Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Texas regions. Ancient Alligators didn't look much different from modern ones. "What is this clown trying to pull? This is just a normal, real animal! You said you didn't have any real animals, liar!" You may be thinking. You would be WRONG! It's pronounced all-uh-gator, and it evolves into every of Crittermons, like Excagator or Termigator, for example.

Why Make Crittermon?
Why not? Ever since Kevin was a child, he's been obsessed with the monster-collecting genre. Realistically, we at Feral Comics will never have the opportunity to write for one of the larger-than-life franchises we grew up with. The only way to make it happen was to build a new one from the ground up, and it has been a fun and educational journey.

What is the money for?

Printing. The comic's done, produced and paid for. All 24 pages already drawn, colored, lettered, and ready to go. That's why the goal is so low compared to the actual production cost of a comic book. If it does well, we'll greenlight a continuous production and increase design budgets for expanding the world and the company. More backer funding means more and better content. Building this world and filling it with life has been a lot of work, and we'd like to keep working on it.

Risks and Challenges

As a new publisher and untested creator, the biggest challenge is convincing a new audience to take a chance on Crittermon. The risks are minimal; the entire comic book issue is completed at every stage and the setting is a personal favorite of ours, so a physical release is inevitable. We just need to format it for the printing service.

NO AI

Not now. Not ever. Feral Comics values human artists and the value and creativity they bring to our projects. We carefully vet all creative partners to maintain a portfolio free of generative AI and we have no intention of backtracking on this stance. We would sooner close up shop than betray our integrity and the network of artists that make our stories possible.
