Project FAQ
Yes! Fox and Polly had a remarkable friendship which inspired every page of A Place to Belong.
A Place to Belong is written for children ages 4–8, but we hope readers of all ages will enjoy sharing Fox and Polly's story together.
Not at all. While Fox has autism and his experiences helped shape the story, A Place to Belong is about friendship, kindness, and belonging. We hope every child can see a little of themselves in its pages.
The manuscript is complete, and the illustrations are currently being finished. Once the artwork is complete, the book will move into final design, printing, and fulfillment.
We hope so! However, backing the campaign is the best way to guarantee you'll receive a first printing and any campaign-exclusive rewards.
Because that's exactly how it happened. Polly chose Fox, and Fox chose Polly. Their friendship grew naturally over seven wonderful years, reminding our family that some of life's most meaningful connections are also the most unexpected.
We will ship your books together, so it will not increase the shipping price substantially! We won't know for sure how much the shipping will cost until printing due to weight and potential tariffs.
By backing this project, you're helping bring A Place to Belong: The Story of Fox and Polly to life. Your pledge helps cover the costs of illustration, design, printing, and shipping.
That's okay! Creating an account and backing a project only takes a few minutes. Backerkit will guide you through the process, and we're always happy to answer questions if you need help.
Like any printed book, unexpected delays can happen during production or shipping. If they do, we'll keep everyone informed with regular updates. Our goal is to create the best book possible and keep you informed throughout the process.
We asked Fox, who is 11, what he prefers! We recognize that language preferences vary within the autistic community. Some people prefer identity-first language ("autistic person"), while others prefer person-first language ("person with autism"). Both are valid. Because this is Fox's story, we've chosen to use the language he prefers when talking about him.
We are against the use of generative AI in creative works and every piece of our project is human-made. No AI has been utilized in the making of this project!
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
