Project FAQ
Wardens of the Blue Rose is a lightweight tabletop roleplaying game you can play in a group or solo, with or without a “Game Master” (in Wardens, the term is Narrator), set in the world of Aldea, previously seen in the True20 and AGE System Blue Rose TTRPGs. Aldea’s a world where good is a compassionate force, and it includes a love of diversity. We welcome you to it—or back to it if it isn’t your first time visiting.
The world of Aldea is a fantasy setting, but it isn’t entirely traditional. It’s inspired by classic romantic fantasy. For Wardens of the Blue Rose, we’ve added influence from modern YA fiction and international animated fantasy, where experiencing travel beauty, and deeper relationships are as much part of the story as any quest. Aldea has many nations, but Wardens travel the Commonwealth of Aldis, a nation that was created by revolutionaries who overthrew the magically advanced but dark-spirited Empire of Thorns. The people created traditions so that they would never be oppressed again. It’s a land of high ideals, but those very ideals are challenges—as a Warden, you’ve pledged to rise to them, to dare to help, accept, include, and show compassion for the people you meet. However, dramatic, dangerous moral dilemmas aside, Aldis can be fun, and Wardens are young, spirited travelers. It’s time for them to find out who they are, get into pratfalls as well as dangers, and, perhaps, fall in love.
Aldea is a vast setting, and Wardens of the Blue Rose isn’t a general purpose TTRPG to cover everything. Instead, we see Wardens as one of many potential games set in Aldea. We’re looking at the possibilities! Wardens of the Blue Rose represents a new approach to the setting where instead of a big thick book, we’re making a focused, accessible game where players have clear goals.
Wardens are young people (college or university age) who, after undergoing training to handle the task ahead, travel a Wardway: a road system from the Old Kingdom that preceded Aldis. Over several seasons groups of Wardens render help, report problems to the authorities, and record their experiences. Much of Aldis is wild, or a ruin from the Empire of Thorns, the cruel nation that was overthrown to found Aldis. Sometimes this leads to character pieces and slice-of-life drama, but it may also lead young heroes to uncover sinister forces.
Wardens of the Blue Rose takes place an unspecified period after the depiction of the setting in prior Blue Rose games. It’s also given us an opportunity to make some adjustments to the setting we’ve wanted to do for some time. Aldea was designed to be progressive, but it’s also over 20 years old. In many cases, this is just a matter of presentation, such as changing certain terms as “new translations” of the original Aldin. However, “canon” is ultimately what happens at your table, especially in Wardens, where everyone will have a unique Commonwealth of Aldis.
SAGE is a lightweight rules system that takes minutes to learn and hardly more time to make a character once you know your choices. It’s based on the Adventure Game Engine seen in Blue Rose: The AGE Roleplaying Game of Romantic Fantasy, The Expanse, Fantasy AGE, and other games, whittled down to the essentials: abilities, which show you what you’re good at, Bonds, which show your beliefs and commitments, Fortune, which measures your advantages as a main character, and stunts, exceptional feats powered by luck, Bonds, Fortune, or a mix of all three. For a more detailed explanation visit https://greenronin.com/agerpg/sage-the-simple-adventure-game-engine/.
In addition to the core SAGE system and rules for the peoples, magic, and other special aspects of the setting , Wardens of the Blue Rose will include a detailed story generation system to inspire you if you play without a Narrator, solo, or in a group—actually, “Narrator” is a position, so in truth, you become the Narrators (GMs) of your own characters. This system includes story prompts and mapping tools, and begins with your travels through Aldis, hex by hex, where you’ll find communities and other areas of interest along the way. Furthermore, as you go you create your own “metaplot” using the Arc Meter system. In other words, it’s a solo ready game with hexcrawl elements.
Good old six-sided dice (AKA d6s). When making tests for your character, you roll three dice and add them together, then add modifiers. You need two of the dice to be one color and the third a different color, or otherwise differentiated in some way. That third die is known as the Drama Die, and it’s important. The result of the Drama Die can determine your level of success and allow you to perform stunts (the most fun part of AGE system games).
Green Ronin Publishing is firmly against the use of AI art in any of our products. Our standard artist contract contains a "no use of AI of any kind" clause, which all artists are expected to adhere to. If we were to determine a piece of art we commissioned used AI assets in its generation, we would cancel the contract and replace the art.

BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
