Project Update: Chester is at GAMA

I think that's a good name for a mimic, right? Chester...

Did you know that a group of mimics is called a "clutch"?

So today at GAMA, I had three workshops in the morning, each sponsored by a gaming company. The first was with Asmodee on their big releases for the year. Honestly, despite their attempt at making it feel like a corporate retreat big event type display, I thought it fell kind of flat. They have some good things coming out this year, don't get me wrong, but the presentation was.....uneven. I'm not huge into their line up of games, so maybe I'm biased.

The second workshop was with Foam Brain Games and it was much more in line with the types of things I'm into. Being on the convention circuit, I assumed that they were a smaller business, but either I was wrong about their offerings, or they've grown a lot in recent years. From pins to dice, to accessories, they are coming out with a lot of great products this year. I'm not sure if there is a way to mix any of their products with mine, but it was an interesting workshop.

The last one was with Dragonshield who is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. Oddly, when they said that, my mind immediately thought, "I didn't know they were around in the 80s." Took me a minute to figure out that 25 years ago was 1999. That doesn't seem right.

Well, after the workshops were over, I had a meeting with Martyn from Backerkit where we talked about this project and my next one (more about that at the end of this project). I hope to launch it maybe sometime around Gen Con? We'll have to see how this ends up and how the summer goes, I think.

After that meeting, Chester was getting hungry, so we sat down for some lunch. Well, I tried to get some lunch, but Chester wasn't in a sharing mood.

He left me a little crust, so I guess that was OK.

There is an exhibitors hall here and I spent a few hours there talking to publishers. Like I've said before, I'm using GAMA as a scouting mission. I need to always be looking for ways I can make products which compliment what is going on in the industry. I've focused mainly on the D&D market, but really need to look at the industry as a whole as well.

I have  a few more things tomorrow. I'll send more pics of Chester then.
