Immersive Realms is a new startup company made of fans who just love the game. I’ve personally been playing it for nearly 20 years. I’m DeviousHearts, or at least that is how I am known in the M&M Community. I’m an administrator on the Atomic Think Tank, Green Ronin Publishing’s official fan website, and the “What’s in the Tank?!?” correspondent you hear at the end of Mutants & Masterminds Monday on Green Ronin Publishing’s own Youtube Channel. I’ve authored several articles on Mutants & Masterminds and game mastering in general available in the Tank’s Freedom City Library. My partners are Spider-Code-Monkey who is head of his own Canadian-based software and web design company and author of a book or two on running tech-based business practices. Ethaks is our master coder, responsible for many innovations in the Pathfinder 1e Foundry Module and an innovative mind bringing many conveniences found in other premium modules to ours. Green Ronin Publishing is an acclaimed American tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) company based in Seattle, Washington, founded in 2000 by industry veterans Chris Pramas and Nicole Lindroos. Known for high-quality, award-winning designs, they have been a staple in the RPG industry for over two decades, winning over 40 awards, including multiple ENnies and Origins awards Steve Kenson, noted TTRPG Author, created the definitive d20-based superhero RPG, Mutants & Masterminds, often called the "World's Greatest Superhero Game," which is celebrated for its flexibility and intuitive, point-buy effect-based system. Foundry Virtual Tabletop (VTT) is a modern, self-hosted application designed for tabletop role-playing games that allows you to play online through a web browser. Unlike subscription-based platforms, Foundry is a one-time purchase, giving you total ownership of your data, complete freedom to host on your own terms, and no gating of premium features. Immersive Realms had worked for two years together to present Mutants & Masterminds 3rd edition into Foundry VTT officially to Green Ronin when we found out they had plans for 4th Edition but, after our presentation, they liked it so much, they decided we’re moving ahead together to provide fans 3rd edition, and later with their help, 4th edition in Foundry VTT! We’re launching our first Backerkit campaign to bring the OFFICIAL Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition, AND 4th Edition when available, to Foundry VTT.
Backerkit works with Stripe to process payments who, for tax purposes, has to pay the owner of the project in the denomination of their country. Jeff aka Spider Monkey is the CEO and owns the business license for Immersive Realms and he comes from the land of pleasant neighbors, universal healthcare, and ham they insist is called bacon. (It's not bacon... it's ham) We have to post the prices in Canadian Dollars. What we have made sure to do is to place the approximate cost in US Dollars directly by it according to the exchange rates when setting up the Backerkit. Currently the American Dollar is worth $1.38 worth of Canadian Dollars. That value can fluctuate but rarely does it do so wildly. When you commit to a pledge, it will tell you roughly how much it is but the actual cost won't be calculated until the day the Backerkit ends. We've done our best to accomodate thyose Americans who want to invest as we feel a majority of those who will invest are American but a number of Canadian fans and international fans have made us aware they intend to invest and are very much encouraged by the interest we've had. I hope this information helps. :)
While I assisted the previous author with their system, it was an unofficial fan-made system made with love but limited in scope as the coder Zakarik began to look elsewhere for other game systems and genres. He HAS, however, graciously maintained it, kept up with new Foundry versions, and helped trouble-shoot issues, and fix bugs. It's in maintenance mode but I have spoken with him recently. There may still be some things yet to see in that app. This new OFFICIAL version of Mutants & Masterminds on Foundry VTT will be officially sanctioned by Green Ronin Publishing and we hope to have products in the Foundry Marketplace soom after the Backerkit ends. It was built from the ground up to try and bring as much automation to play with as many premium features seen usually in premiere TTRPG packages.
Well, we are doing it for both 3rd and 4th Editions. We just had the 3rd edition version nearly ready after about a year and a half and were planning to pitch it to Green Ronin Publishing. Then the 4th edition came along. We talked with Green Ronin, gave them a demonstration, and established a partnership with them enabling us to offer the products they have and intend to create for the Mutants & Masterminds line and bring them into Foundry in the future, both editions. They've agreed to allow us to do BOTH editions. :) Also, I was on the team that came up with the fan-made version so I know it was made with care and quality, but it does lack a lot of QOL features you see in some systems that we thought to bring to players of M&M. The fan-made version has been out of development mode and in maintenance mode for a few years. Zakarik is a phenomenal person but he is quite diligently working on coding for another project. We communicate and may still have some updates in the future for the older system as well. The new system is built from the ground up with expansion in mind. We are actively developing and intend to continue active development for years to come. There will be a free version available to all eventually of both editions and we feel strongly it will meet or surpass the current fan-made version. If you are wondering what we offer over the current system, check out the teaser trailer and ask yours
No. These compendiums and products are for the THIRD edition versions only, to be clear :) We are still talking with Green Ronin about what type of deal we can work out for our Backers on certain 4th edition products that they also created for 3rd that we converted for the Foundry VTT version. The reason we can offer the third edition products we ARE now offering is Green Ronin is getting a share of what we take in as it is their IP that has been out for a while. We are simply reusing and converting it for Foundry VTT for 3rd edition material they have already gone to market with. It's had its glory days in the sun. It had a good run, but never quite made it to Foundry VTT, which is where we come in. It revitalizes a "mature" product for a new market. They will likely, and fairly so, expect a larger share of profits in the future from NEW Mutants & Masterminds 4th Edition products they want to sell for Foundry VTT as those products usually have a demand period that tapers off after they have been out in the wilds of the fair market. We're doing our best to get what we can from them and seeking permissions but it is an ongoing process. I'd love to give away the store, but it's not my store to give away. It's theirs. Thank you for your question I do hope you find the answer understandable and satisfactory. :)
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
