"The expected release for Season One is sometime in 2027."
While I don't mind waiting for quality, and will continue to wait, this is painful. I had hoped the news that you were partnering with another group was going to help things move along quicker. (Somebody please cryogenically freeze me and wake me up in 2027, or thereabouts. I'm also hoping the world will still exist by then, and not be a nuked crater in the ground...)
Continuing to see this phrase:
"(as it existed at the time)"
troubles me. Does this mean the entire thing must be redone from scratch, and that's why it will take so much longer? Or can any of it still be reworked and salvaged? Fingers crossed for the latter.
I'm also concerned, like others have mentioned, about how the series will be released now. I'm not terribly thrilled about the possibility of having to pay additional money to a streaming service either. I have no love for youtube these days, but the zillions of various streaming services don't seem like a great alternative.
The issue of copyrights, etc, also seem concerning, and I thought that was the main reason why the crew opted to stay independent: To avoid all the various legal red tape that can go along with a partnership deal. I don't know much about Glitch either, but since you have chosen to team up with them, I can only hope that means they cut you a fair deal and will give you the ability to continue the series as you see fit, and still retain control over the Lackadaisy IP – and as a whole, not just the comic only.
"Are you keeping your crew?"
I'm relieved that most of the VAs and a good chunk of the crew are staying on the project, but does this mean that Iron Circus is partnering with Glitch, or that this is now exclusively a Glitch production and Iron Circus is no longer involved except for the crew members you're taking with you?
Final(_Final) (ha ha) thoughts/gripes:
"Viktor has recently made his way into the Lackadaisy Shop."
Although I'd been seeing bits of info here and there about the difficulty of his design, I'm a little disappointed to see his debut announced this way, kind of shoehorned into this much larger update which is primarily about the animated series. A separate email alert, at least, would have been nice, or even better, another update to the community section after this would help other plushie collectors find him more easily. In the meantime, I'm going to go snap him up in case he tries to disappear like Zib.
"As often as we're able, we will continue to update you with news, information about upcoming merch, animated sneak peeks (so long as we have Glitch's approval)"
Well, then. I hope Glitch isn't going to keep you guys on a short leash, because seeing behind-the-scenes sneak peeks is one of the few things that keeps me going while I'm trying to wait patiently.
"Animation - whether it's 3D or 2D rigged animation - is very involved, time consuming work. Animation that's predominantly hand-drawn like Lackadaisy is an increasingly rare beast because it takes even longer. Of course, we approach it that way because we feel like the end result is worth it. We hope you're here in part because you feel similarly."
Absolutely. ♥ I don't like to complain, especially since I know a few backers have been rather uncharitable about delays and other things, but I hope you all know that I'm 100% supportive and still have trust in the Lackacrew. I just want to make sure this is being done in the best way possible for both crew AND fans.
