I've loved reading since I was a kid and writing has always been a natural extension of that for me. Whether I ever see any measurable success or not is irrelevant to me. I do this exclusively because I love it and am passionate about it.
Men Are Just Candy came about because I needed an outlet for my grief and anger. Vae's story was cathartic for me, writing a woman wronged who takes her power back and uses her pain as a shield against the world before slowly learning to open up to the people around her. My main goal was to take the idea of societies expectations of victimhood and put it under a microscope. So often, victims are expected to look and behave a certain way, and that's just not the reality for the majority of us.
So, what better way to capture the imperfect victim than through a Succubus who hates men and gets vengeance on the ones who hurt people, but inevitably falls for a man with secrets.
Vae is my way of holding a mirror up to my trauma and all the darkest, ugliest parts of myself. Hopefully, through her story, even one other person can feel seen. Feel as if their darkness isn't something to run or hide from, but to examine and turn into art.
