No swords. No sorcery. No AI.
Just blown glass. Raw magic. And a ton of luck.
Take a look!
The Low Down
In Karayna, a land where only twins are born with magic and a prophecy speaks of powerful mirrors destined to change the kingdom, a pair of luck-wielding twins are hailed as the answer and set to inherit the throne. But not everyone believes in fate, and as the Guild of Broken Glass rises in the shadows, a larger threat looms over the safety of Karayna. A disgraced healer turned black-market potioner who needs the princes' luck more than anything.
When the Guild miraculously steals one of the lucky twin princes, his brother, Bear, unravels, unable to balance his magic or emotions without his other half. He is determined to save his brother, but how, when his luck never helps him, only those around him?
Apogee, meanwhile, is determined to make amends with her Gran after burning down the local healing center--along with the village's only healing apprentice. When she is called, in the apprentice's stead, to assist her grandmother at a local twin birth and to take the babies to the palace, she sets her sights on obtaining the only thing that will make her Gran forgive her. A bit of bottled luck magic.
When, in a twist of fate, the two are comically bound together as the twin babies' caretakers, Bear and Apogee must find a way to change their luck, save his brother, and illegally bottle some very powerful magic, without killing each other or their new little charges. But when things are going best is misfortune's favorite time to play, and even the lucky princes can't avoid their fate.
As dark forces rise, magic burns unpredictably, and the kingdom's future hangs in the balance, will Apogee and Bear find the power to make their own destinies or be stuck by the luck that binds their fates?
Meet the Characters
Apogee, Mud, Bear, Bull, Panona, and Peria
Bear
One of Karayna's Lucky Twins of Prophecy, destined to change the kingdoms fate from a Scryer's tale told millienia ago. His brother Bull is the only one in all the kingdoms that he can trust, and Bear's the reason he got kidnapped. With luck magic that only blesses everyone else and never himself, going to save Bull would only make his enemies stronger. That is, until a hapless girl named Apogee convinces him that his luck might just be changing.
Bull
Getting captured was the last thing Bull expected to happen to him. As the other Lucky Prince of Karayna, his magic works inward, only blessing himself with the fate's stingy luck. Able to do no wrong, feel no hurt, and come to no harm, he had long lost any worry for his own safety. But in the clutches of The Guild of Broken Glass, who want to use him to destroy his brother, Bull is left wondering he's actually capable of doing. Has everything he'd ever been good at been because of his magic? And without it, what did that make him?
Apogee
A dark-arts practicing potioner looking to make a name for herself, Apogee gets sent to the palace in her Gran's stead, trying to win her favor. But when she gets stuck in the palace to raise a pair of twins destined to overthrow the lucky princes, she's in for far more than she bargained for. In her efforts to escape a life not meant for her, she teams up with Bear, the Lucky Prince of Karayna, not just to escape the palace, but in hopes she can learn how to steal his magic and bottle it for herself.
Apogee, disgraced healer turned black-market potioner
Mud
A charming, bumbling, tall bit of oaf, Mud is a thespian determined to play the ultimate part. But when he's captured by The Guild of Broken Glass, pretending to be a guard, his luck takes a turn for the worse. Determined to become a renowned bard of magical proportions, he's torn when he meets Apogee. A stealer of magic and a maker of potions who could both make his career or end him. Plus, he thinks she's pretty dang cute.
Mud. Thespian.
Panona
A member of the klondy, Panona does not bow to boys or crowns. She belongs to the tribal people on the edges of Karayna, who bury roots in their organs and skin and let plants grow from their blood to create their own kind of magic. When Bear and Apogee stumble into her oasis, she is more than intrigued. She is determined to change the luck of her own people with Bear's magic, whether or not he consents.
Panona, the klondy
Peria
An adamant hater of twins and the magic they carry, Peria has a plan. Second in command of The Guild of Broken Glass, her goal is simple. Destory all the twins and the feckless magic they carry and free the kingdom from their tyranny. Years into a plan to steal the Lucky Princes so she can use them to change the Guild's own chances, she finally succeeds... in stealing the wrong prince. Now, she must figure out how to use a prince who only benefits himself to destroy his brother and the kingdom he's willing to die to protect.
