Dana's wife Anne Merritt found Dana in bed but unable to communicate. Her quick thinking saved his life as the paramedics transported Dana to Alta Bates Summit Hospital in Oakland California where Dana underwent emergency open heart surgery on February 27. Then on March 17 Dana suffered an esophageal tear that was repaired while Dana was in the intensive care unit. Dana was discharged to home care on April 4 where he now receives home health services for long term rehabilitation.

 

During his time in the hospital, Dana's computer shut down and his connections to bank accounts, current projects, etc., were temporarily disconnected. These connections are gradually being reestablished.
