BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

Will this be compatible with One D&D/6e/the next version of D&D?

As far as I can plan for, yes! They've stated that the new system mechanics will be compatible with 5e, and as best as I can tell so far that shouldn't affect most of the content in this book. If there is content that would be affected (most likely to be Histories/how to convert Backgrounds to Histories, and Advanced Trainings), I will plan to add sidebars or a section of its own to the book explaining how I would convert content if such a conversion is needed. At the time of writing, the release date was accidentally leaked as May 2024, so there's a good chance I'll have the new system in hand before the book is completely finalized.

There wasn't an early bird specific tier - how do I know I'll be getting my reward?

BackerKit tracks when pledges occur, so as long as your pledge was in the first 48 hours and you pledged for a physical reward you'll get the reward added in the pledge manager!

Why are you still making 5e supplements? WotC/Hasbro sucks!

Fortunately, it's free to design for 5th edition! The SRD is out in creative commons, meaning I don't have to rely on WotC to do the right thing with the game. I had some ideas that were best expressed first in 5e's mechanics, so that's where I'm starting. There are a lot of other amazing systems out there (I've designed some myself too), and I'm excited to expand or even convert my works into other systems in the future. A lot of people still play and intend to keep playing 5e with or without supporting WotC.

How come you're only shipping from the US?

In my first campaign, Injuries and Vile Deeds, I partnered with ShipQuest to handle some orders from their UK hub to reduce shipping costs for UK/EU backers. Unfortunately, this ended up causing a number of delays in fulfillment and added a number of additional expenses and stresses to the project. If there ends up being a high international demand for the project, I will look into other options for more localized fulfillment, but I can't promise anything at this time.
