Dawn of the Orcs is going to be on Backerkit's Ennies Emporium, launching July 6!

The words, "The Story" surrounded by stylized runes.

You are sages, wizards, scholars, geniuses, charlatans, and assorted other meddlers. Your nation faces destruction at the hands of an overwhelming foe. To save your homeland, you have put your occult learning, secret arts, and esoteric skills to use to build an army of new soldiers, who you call the Orcs. Each battle of the war buys you time to improve and modify your Orcs. Can you repel the invaders with a combination of sorcery and strategy? What will you have created when the fighting is over?

"We had a blast. I've got it on my tablet and plan to share it with every group I can."
- David Dobelman, Role Playing Exchange and Role Playing Public Radio

Dawn of the Orcs is GMless, plays in 90-120 minutes, and can be played with a group or solo. You play as the magical technocrats who create the first Orcs as weapons of war, modify and improve them over time, and tell the story of how the Orcs become their own people. By the end, you will have told an epic tale of creation and created a unique Orc people, perhaps even one you feel like using in the setting of other roleplaying games.

"I've run it about 4 times... the first as a two-player with a very close gamer friend and it was very collaborative as we were learning together. The next times at the Story Games LA meetup and at Strategicon Games on Demand with larger random tables. It is such a fun time, and fits very comfortably in the ~2 hour game time zone. There is lots of room to have characters with personality and a combination of collaborative and competitive goals, a little bit of back stabbing, but in a limited fashion that is perfect for a collab story game. This has quickly become one of my favorite games to keep in the "ready to go anytime" folder. High kudos!" - Tomer Gurantz, Super November Games

If you'd like to hear the game in action, Dawn of the Orcs has been featured on multiple actual play shows. This actual play from DMs After Dark stops after the first two chapters for people who want to avoid spoilers!

Dawn of the Orcs is a 54 page, A5-size book, printed on 100% recycled paper. It has a cover by Simone Tametta and detailed interior artwork by Plasmophage and Kira Ghost. Independent reviewer The Gaming Table shows off a physical copy here:

"The layout and art is genuinely great here. There is so much art — custom banners on most chapters, every page has something unique. It’s well spaced, and clearly labelled...the smart information design shortcuts a lot of need for complex layout decisions. When I talk about game design, layout and information design all bring one and the same, this is what I mean."

A giant creature bolted together from metal plates, bones, and muscles prepares to hurl a boulder over a wall at oncoming siege towers and soldiers marching in formation. Two silhouettes look on from a battlement.
