Project FAQ
Midnight Muscadines (‘Musk-ah-dines) gets its name from a thick skinned, dark purple grape that grows in the southeast United States. In the game, these fruits contain the last concentrated magic of the world and are harvested and preserved by Marmateers.
Very! The book is written for new players. Gameplay is centered around players telling the story together, not fiddling with crunchy mechanics. Character creation is fast, fun, and evocative, while the core rules for overcoming challenges are simple: Roll two or more dice against a target number to beat. For those who want to dig in more, there is depth to the mechanics to optimize and tweak your character with spells, items, advancements, and abilities.
This is a medium-lite game with many opportunities for fine-tuning and optimizing your character as desired, but isn’t required for play. Midnight Muscadines has enough crunch for players who love to tweak their characters' stats, abilities, and advancements to find interesting or powerful combinations, but those who just want to dive into a story don't need to worry about optimizing or reading over all the options.
The world is built around the concept of cozy autumn days: full of warm nostalgia, with the threat of darkness at the edges. The game’s writing, characters, and setting are written through the lens of young adult novels, with dangers mellowed with wanderlust and unapologetic excitement. Players can attend bright and exciting festivals, then investigate a dark conspiracy before delving deep into the twilight of the Wildernight where strange creatures watch from the shadows.
1 or more players. Midnight Muscadines is adaptable and supports Solo, Duet, GM-Less, and GM-led play styles. This is accomplished through all mechanics being performed by the players, coupled with a plethora of GM-like tools, such as Mentor Prompts, rolling tables, and more.
Mentor Prompts are our unique take on empowering solo and GM-less play. Mentor Prompts are used by players to prompt actions that normally a GM performs, such as “Raise the Stakes”, “Uncover a Mystery”, and “Introduce a Rival”. These are more directed than rolling tables, providing written guidance on how to raise the stakes in your story, for instance.
As part of our desire to produce sustainable products that can be easily recycled at the end of their life, we spent a lot of time researching many different manufacturers from multiple countries, including the US, UK, EU, and China. After a lot of back and forth with many vendors, we turned to our incredibly eco-conscious, US-based manufacturer for shipping supplies, EcoEnclose. We already work with EcoEnclose extensively for shipping boxes, padded envelopes, printer paper, kraft packing tape, and more, and we found it is a perfect fit. It turned out to be incredibly difficult to find someone who can make a custom sized, printed box - especially at a price point and quantity we could justify. So we decided on a high quality, sustainable, well-designed, custom fitted kraft box for Midnight Muscadines. The custom fitted box reduces paper waste, as we don't need to use off-the-shelf sizes and then backfill the box with an insert or packing materials so the books and components don't jostle about. It is exactly as big as it needs to be. Made from 100% recycled post-consumer product, printed with algae and vegetable inks, without varnish and lacquer, and manufactured and shipped within the US, this is the most eco-friendly box we can make. Not only are we doing this with the Marmateer's Field Kit box, but the Magical Jam's dice box as well. Also, we think the kraft box, printed to look like a piece of luggage, fits Midnight Muscadine's cozy vibes perfectly!
Currently, all books are available to EU customers!
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
