They're pocket-sized and easy to travel with! They are 12-16 pages in total and measuring 4.5" x 6.25" or 114.3mm x 158.75mm and arrive in an A6 sized envelope with a stamp.
While final pricing after the campaign is not final yet, we are targeting $10-$12 per issue, shipping included. There will be bundles of back issues sold at a discount so new folks can catch up.
NO. No pledges or add-ons during the campaign will sign you up for any kind of reoccurring subscription or payments. These are all single, standalone purchases. Monthly subscriptions will be set up after the campaign on pocket-birds.com and backers will be notified when they can subscribe if they'd like to.
Shipping is included! Each issue is sent in an envelope with a stamp, and the shipping costs are built into the price of each zine. And yes, we ship international! The issues will be sent untracked, using a Global Forever Stamp. International Shipping is still included in the cost. For most countries, letters, booklets, and bound, printed materials are zero-rated for VAT, duties, and tariffs, but please check your local codes. The zines use Harmonization System Code 4901.99.00.
Multiple reasons: - We wanted to slow it all down. We live in a world filled with infinite choices and options, and this our attempt at focusing on just one thing at a time. - We love writing and publishing small, staple bound zines. Something that arrives in the mail, brings some excitement, doesn't ask a lot of your time to read, but stays with you afterwards. - By only having one bird, we can really dig in with the art and writing, showing different wants to imagine or think about the bird beyond just its size and what it eats.
Yes! We plan to donate to Minnesota-based bird charities and causes that help raise awareness for conservation, practice citizen science, and build communities around birding. We are still working out the details and researching the local organizations, but hope to be able to donate 5% of profits each year.
Yes! We will announce a wholesale portal to purchase directly from us after the crowdfunding campaign.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
