Project Update: An Interview with the Creative Lead for SHIVER Corporate (and Community Achievements)

The first stream for SHIVER: Corporate went live last week, with some of our audience affectionately dubbing the event a fun ramble-chat. We had a lot of fun, and will be sure to run another casual chat again soon to give you even more fun slices of media to whet your appetite for horror in the workplace.

We've also got new Community Achievements for you all to shoot for! We've looking for 100 Shares on X / Twitter, 100 Shares on Facebook, and 100 New Discord Community Members. Click the three links in the previous text to go to the "Call to Action Button", and make sure your efforts count! You'll also find them at the bottom of this update.

For each goal we hit we will reveal either a Corporate Monster, Department, and Mechanic! Participation is not mandatory, but will be remarked upon at your annual employee review.

Interview with Adam Holloway - Project Lead
ADAM: It's weird to be doing this again so soon after last weeks stream. I don't like talking about myself - my crowdfunding bio on the last two campaigns even says so!

And yet here you are!

ADAM: Here I am! Here we are! Corporate is two and half months from launching, and this is what I'm doing to hide from it.

How far along is Corporate in terms of development?

ADAM: Oh, wow. I am not sure how to answer that... (thinks momentarily) I think it's about 90% done in terms of content. That's... The whole book is written, I think.  Mechanics, adventures, lore, and all. But there's always room for more tweaks, testing, and perfectionist editing. So 90% for the main book, yeah.

What about the rest of the campaign?

ADAM: Who knows! (laughs) No, it's in great shape. We're doing things we've never done before with this expansion. Some of it is simple branding, like a new Director's Screen and Dice Bags. Then some of it is more complex branding, like all the "Welcome to Cornwell" company swag bags, which will have merchandise as well as small exclusive adventures in a unique style.

Then there's the novel, which is... you know. I honestly thought to myself "I've written two feature films, a dozen short films, a few published short stories and a whole bunch of RPG adventures - this'll be easy!" I am a complete idiot. Every time I jump to a new medium it's like jumping into deep water. I'm a good swimmer, but I'm also the most panic-driven person you've every met. The novel that ties into Corporate, which I'm calling "[CENSORED]" right now, it's the hardest thing I've ever done. But every project I take on at SHIVER is the hardest thing I've ever done at the time.

What do you mean?

Well, being creative lead on an entire book was the hardest thing for a good long while. Designing and running an EPIC promotional even at the UK Games Expo was, too. And designing starter adventures ("Return to Camp Blood"), 100 year-spanning stories that can be played sequentially or out of order (SHIVER: Slasher - "Generation Murder"), and 6 epic movie worlds that are each in their own cinematic universe (SHIVER: Blockbuster - "Legends of the Silver Scream")... What I am saying is Charlie & Barney hate it when my blood pressure drops too low, and then they throw something new at me. (laughs) It's great.

What can we expect from SHIVER: Corporate? What makes it unique alongside SHIVER's previous expansions?

It's got a great and unique world to play around in, as all good Shiver games should. This time we're exploring the world of untethered corporate science. What if you had all the money, all the power, and none of the morals? You'd get so bored, so fast. So every research department that makes up the research facility in the book covers the weirdest and most extreme version of a familiar thing. Disease research? We've got "Unique and Incurable Diseases: None Profitable". See, these are the departments for interns. Are aliens real? They are - but the ones you get to cut open as an intern aren't worth money. That doesn't mean they're safe though.

The interns are when your players come in. The whole book is themed around these poor, unpaid, unprepared career hopefuls. They're going to go through hell, sometimes literally, and all they're looking for is a positive performance review. They'll even die for the company, whether they want to or not, and it doesn't end there for them. They're just not that lucky.

SHIVER: Corporate has got a unique sense of humour, something that satirises some of the worst parts of real world big companies and puts you powerlessly into absurd situations.

It's also chock full of weird little mechanical implements. This is a secret corporate research facility right? It's got to be cutting edge! So much so that there will be blood, that much we know.

You have a penchant for weird little mascots.

ADAM: Is that a question? (laughs nervously)

What's the novel going to be about?

ADAM: It's a story set inside a research facility, following... sorry can we just go back to your last question?

Of course, if you have something to add. What can we expect from SHIVER: Corporate? What -

ADAM: No, not that one.

You said the the last thing wasn't a question.

ADAM: Look, if you're asking me about the Squirrel -
