SHIVER Cryptids: A Mystery Monster Hunter's TTRPG · 1,635 following
"What's that shadow moving between the trees? Was it a bird? Maybe it was a bear? But what if it was... Bigfoot? The Chupacabra? Mothman? We'll never know unless we go in after it!"
SHIVER: Cryptids is the latest supplement for the Award Winning multi-setting Horror RPG: Shiver: Roleplaying Tales in the Strange and Unknown. Getting down in the dirt with monsters of all kinds, this expansion is ideal for those who want to load into a van and chase the unknown - or drive away from it in a hurry.
In SHIVER: Cryptids, you can join the CREEPS (Cryptid Research and Esoteric Experiments in the Paranormal Society) as they try to find (and photograph) all the weird and wonderful mysteries for their monthly magazine - or die trying!
With SHIVER you can roleplay anything spooky, scary, or downright terrifying you want - bringing the world of monster, ghosts, and anything "horror" right to your tabletop.
Easy to Learn: Using film and pop culture as a guide, everyone will be able to pick up and play on game night.
Horror Your Way: SHIVER invites you to make your own scary spaces, or create the perfect sequel to your favourite movie - it's all up to you and what you want to play!
A Whole World of Stories: Make your own stories with our Core Rulebook, or jump into the worlds we've made - worlds of conspiracies, corporate sci-fi nightmares, gothic fantasy - and now good ol' fashioned cryptids!
At Parable Games, we love the monsters of imaginations and legends worldwide - we don't need any more existential dread. This work was made by humans. No AI or Machine Generated works are included in this project. Supporting us means you're supporting real people - real people who might believe in Bigfoot.

Emerging Victorious, it's the Famous River Hag Herself: Jenny Greenteeth!
Unleashing Jenny onto Your Table Jenny Greenteeth is one of those classic Cryptids that you just can't help but love. Adam took development of this nasty hag very seriously, delving into all manner of legend and history to help create a really gnarly take on England's most famous river hag.
Legend: Jenny is just one of many Cryptids from around the globe whose origins seem to be to warn children about the dangers of rivers, lakes, and swamps – any land-bound body of water, really! From the myths of the Bunyip, Kappa, Rusalka and the Grendylow, there are all kinds of terrible things that lurk in the shallows, waiting to drag you down deeper...
Minions: Jenny is one of our few Cryptids that thrive upon the service of others. The witchier tales of Jenny inspired a very strange development for her as an enemy (this is SHIVER, after all). Those who fall to Jenny's dark magicks have the misfortune of turning into the strange, slimy, slug-like creatures that spend their terrible lives in her service. The body horror is pretty high on this one, if you think about it too much (we did).
In Play: Jenny isn't a big hitter like our pal Bigfoot, but she is a terrifying foe. We gave her a range of adaptable attacks for a GM to use, and the highest amount of reactions in one of our favourite Reaction Tables: SCARY. This means that even with a lower health point total, Jenny can absolutely make a nightmare for any humble reporters that dare to cross her path.
Our Jenny Adventure The year is 1545, and a small group of highland warriors hold the barricades of ruined Castle Dorchusger against their foe, Sir Graham Tollins and his king's army. But the greatest threat to their survival is not beyond the walls, it's within them. Buried deep down in the foundations of this abandonned fortress is something terrible, and it hungers.
Your Own Jenny Adventures With SHIVER, it's never been easier to do horror your own way. Rivers run all over the lands of the world, and where they go, so does Jenny. The river hag could torment a water draining data centre in the modern day, or terrorise your very own home town... With SHIVER Cryptids, Jenny is at your command. Let's just hope she's feeling open to collaborating!

They may be scurrying in the shadows, shrouded in foliage, or lurking in a deep dark lake… but wherever they may be hiding, they will soon be discovered…
In less than 2 weeks on 20 October, SHIVER: Cryptids will be launching on Backerkit!
Ahead of your adventures as great cryptid explorers, here’s the writers and creators of SHIVER: Cryptids. Nessie-loving but water-fearing Adam, and Bigfoot-fan Charlie, on the hunt to find the big hairy guy…
And... TWO more Cryptids have been spotted...
On the left: Jenny Greenteeth, the Slimy River Hag of Northern England. Some say they’ve heard her piercing cackle, or the waft of her grimy water stench.
On the right: The Dryad - the Oaken-Demon of the Living Forest. Is it just the wind rustling the leaves, or are you unknowingly trapped in the Dryad’s thorny grasp?
Cover Reveal: SHIVER Cryptids is Taking You on a Monster Hunting Road Trip!
He's done it again! Resident Parable artist Ben Alexander has outdone himself with another outstanding cover design – if we do say so ourselves!
Watch Ben's process below in the time-lapse below...
How many cryptids can you spot? More importantly, can you name them all? Adam has a bet that there's one in particular you're going to get wrong... Let us know in the comments (no cheating)!
SHIVER: Cryptids is going to bring all these cryptids to your games, plus some more! It's easy to learn, full of fun and horror, and going to me your tabletop gaming nights more memorable than ever.
And if you've not already done it, be sure to follow for more updates, plus a free adventure and to claim an 'I Saw Bigfoot' patch.
Our Winner by a Landslide, it's the Big (Footed) Man Himself!
Bringing Bigfoot to your Tabletop It's no secret at Parable HQ that Charlie has a lot of love for this humble sasquatch, so when it came time to bring the big man to life in SHIVER: Cryptids, he had lots of ideas.
Inspiration: There's a lot of Bigfoot media out there, from the original Patterson-Gimlin film, to all the shows filling up "history" & "geographic" related TV channels, Bigfoot is one of the most well know (and easily creatable) cryptids in the book.
Mechanics: We leaned heavily on Grit to really show just how bulky this fella is. When looking at weaknesses, Hearts sprung to mind – after all, he's a shy guy who might just be trusting enough to fall for a kind hearted gesture, or a devious ruse... The attacks and abilities really hone in on Bigfoot's strengths, and while he's not the most deadly of the cryptids in our offering (that'd be [CENSORED]), he's certainly a brawny Bruiser.
Lore: You might have assumed by the name "Father Bigfoot" that there's going to be a few more variations of this cryptid in the book – and you'd be right. We wanted to create a social structure, a heart to the Bigfoot myth, and part of the way of doing that was exploring what the sasquatch's life might be like.
Our Big Foot Adventure
The Society of Cryptid Conservation (S.O.C.C) and The Bigfoot Hunter’s Association will be in a race against time - with one team trying to protect the elusive Bigfoot; whilst the Hunters (led by the despicable Hiram De Groot) want to capture it, display it and eventually, put its head on their wall.
Your Own Bigfoot Adventures As with all things SHIVER, our way isn't the only way. If you want to make Bigfoot a lone terror, bigger and tougher than our social creature, and put him on a rampage... do it! With SHIVER Cryptids, the adventures you run are going to be just as cool and fun to play as ours – hopefully even more so!
