Project Update: End of May update

Howdy folks!

Some exciting news (this will feel familiar if you're a Last Light Station backer): we're expanding the zine! We just couldn't fit all this content in the page count alotted, so Ryan and I are eating the cost of the extra 4 pages, and pushing this thing to 32 pages!

The manuscript is edited and finalized, so Ryan is deep into layout. Here are some WIP spreads they shared:

None of these are finalized yet, but should give you a good idea of the look of the zine. We're aiming to go to print next month, but will keep everyone updated once we have firmer dates. Tuesday Knight Games will be handling fulfillment for most of the Mothership Month 2025 projects (including ours), and once we have more info on their timeline we'll share that here too.

Lastly, I wanted to share the final deity collages. The idea behind each of these is that they're Sunlit Path adherent interpreting the deities. I tried to think hard on what sort of symbols a follower might associate with each particular deity. Some of these are mostly analog, cut and paste collages, while others are put together from digitized sources.

And here's some information about each deity.

  • Hayashi: Protostar and the most recent addition to the pantheon, born from a supernova. Manifests as a small animal like a fox or mouse. While many children are naturally drawn to this deity, teachers, parents, artists and agents of chaos also call upon Hayashi. Associated with child-rearing, but also mischief, whimsy, innocence, and destruction.

  • Hydri: An evolved subgiant star, and the brightest in the pantheon. Its unusually strong magnetosphere brought it to the attention of Sunlit scientists generations ago. Appears as a wrinkled man, often in shadow or barely lit by a dying light. The elder deity is associated with aging and wisdom, but also the unexpected. In their final days, some folks feign devotion to Hydri, while secretly worshipping Lich.

  • Lich: Neutron star in an unexplored system who comes to its followers as the absence of light, an overwhelming darkness paired with the stench of rot. Lich controls the realm of death, but also that which springs from death. Adherents, such as death doulas or morticians, point to the renewal aspect of Lich, and the necessary contrast to the other Sunlit Deities.

  • Rubídea: A red giant star, and one of the brightest when viewed from the Setebos system. Their physical form is of a humanoid warrior with ruby red skin. Called upon in matters of love and war for their merciful and fair demeanor. Rubídea, with its many names, is also seen as a deity that helps their followers become what they need to be in the moment.

  • Nikiforova: Blue giant, just a jump away from the Setebos system. Appearing as a mass of faces who speak with one voice: a breathtaking choral bombardment. Unlike the shifting Rubidea, Nikiforova embodies a collective power. Deity called upon for freedom and labor matters. Teamsters and politically active Solarians follow Nikiforova, seeing them as a patron of the lower classes. Depictions of Nikiforova often adorn organizing pamphlets and banners.

  • Achernar: This binary star system is a symbol of those called upon to defend the meek; the choice of many a Sower. Achernar appear in visions to the devout as two chaotic masses, the larger protecting the smaller. This deity is called upon for justice, along with rituals involving protection and order. While outsiders sometimes conflate them with Nikiforova, those who walk the Path see Achernar as more rigid.

That's all for now. Ryan or I will be checking in before the end of June, and sooner if we've got more info before then. Thanks for sticking with us, and for all your support!

Kindly,
Joshua
