Space Trucking for Mothership

Edit

What is Another Day in Paradise?

Another Day in Paradise is your guide to space trucking in Mothership. The front half has rules and content for hauling, trading, smuggling, and pirating freight; the back half is a complete map of the Setebos System, the star system surrounding Prospero's Dream, ready for immediate long-haul play. Buy low, sell high, and pray you get lucky—or step outside the law, gambling your life and freedom for even greater profits.

What's Inside?

  • 30+ ports of call scattered across the planets, moons, and stations of the Setebos System, all tying into the events and content in A Pound of Flesh.
  • Generators and fill-in-the-blank guides to create your own ports and trading vessels.
  • Rules and procedures for space travel, commerce, market forces, smuggling contraband, and piracy.
  • Many, many tables of social customs, port laws, trade goods, market events, and more!

The Rules

The first half of Another Day in Paradise contains a series of rules and generators, followed by content to use with each. The booklet expands and builds upon the space travel rules found in the Shipbreaker's Toolkit, getting slightly more granular but accordingly offering more strategic decision-making. Likewise, Another Day in Paradise enhances the station rules and generators from the Warden's Operation Manual and A Pound of Flesh with a step-by-step procedure to build commercial spaceports of any class, fleshing them out with their unique customs, surpluses, scarcities, and market demands.

Some ports are friendly and open to merchants, some are closed up tight. Lawless X-Class stations sell anything to the highest bidder, while pristine A-Class company towns require licenses just to simply dock. Every port has its own character, and each offers opportunity to the canny merchant.

To make all of this smooth and easy (rather than just more homework for the Warden), Another Day in Paradise also includes many, many tables of features, events, and trade goods, all built to fit cleanly into the rules structure provided.

Setebos System

What lies outside Prospero's Dream, the iconic station from A Pound of Flesh? What do the other vory of the Golyanovo II Bratva think of Yandee's recent actions? What strange and heretical beliefs do splinter branches of Solarians start to develop, alone in the void? And just what is the Stratemeyer Syndicate up to? Another Day in Paradise provides answers to all these questions, and many more.

Setebos System, the star system in which Prospero's Dream resides, comprises more than a dozen planets and moons, with more than thirty ports of call scattered across them. Whether your crew begins play on the Dream or jumps into Setebos from elsewhere, there are problems to solve, cargo to haul, and credits to earn.

The Rewards & Stretch Goals

Another Day in Paradise is a classic Mothership booklet: 36 pages, half-letter size (5.5" x 8.5"), just a few colors, printed on uncoated paper (for easy annotation!), and bound with staples. It should be a cute little project, one that'll fit in nicely alongside the rest of your Mothership collection.

The patch (for backers at the patch tier) is a 2" iron-on patch. It's exclusive to this campaign—after the BackerKit campaign ends, it will no longer be available for purchase. It looks like this:

Stretch Goals

At $2,500, we make the zine.

At $5,000, we'll have enough to hire an artist for a few pieces. If we make it this far, I'll announce who.

At $7,500, we'll beef out the zine—extra tables and content, probably in Market Events (things that happen when you land on a space station) and Random Encounters (in the depths of space).

At $10,000, everyone who backs at a physical tier will get a bonus patch.

If we make it that far, we might add one or two more things.

48-Hour Early Bird Backer Patch

In accordance with tradition, if you back Another Day in Paradise at a physical tier (that is, not just the PDF) within the first 48 hours of the campaign, you'll receive a special BackerKit-exclusive 2" iron-in patch. It looks like this:

Please note that for all physical tiers, the following countries are excluded due to TKG's shipping requirements: AF, BT, BR, BN, BY, CF, TD, CU, GF, GP, IR, IL, LA, LR, LY, YT, PM, MM, MN, NU, KP, PG, RE, RU, PM, WS, SL, ZA, SS, SY, TJ, TL, TM, AE, YE. Sorry! The digital-only PDF tier remains available.

The Team

Who's making this thing? There are a few of us:

Top of the list is yours truly, Sam Sorensen, doing the writing and graphic design. It's my words you're reading, and it's my jazzy InDesign skills you're seeing on the page. You might know me from previous projects like Time After Time, Seas of Sand, or my ongoing real-time logistics wargame, Cataphracts

To make sure I write properly, Matthew K. is our editor. I've worked with him before on both Time After Time and Seas of Sand, but you might know his work most recently from the award-winning Land of Eem.

To help make the project really sing, I've also brought on a couple of others to help with development: Luke Gearing, who needs no introduction, and Luther Gutekunst, who you might know recently from his critically-acclaimed Mothership adventure Owe My Soul to the Company Store.

We also might, depending on the stretch goals, maybe add one or two more people? Especially an illustrator? We'll see!

OVER/UNDER

You've probably already seen this elsewhere, but in addition to creating Another Day in Paradise, I'm also running a special game for this year's Mothership Month, called OVER/UNDER. It's a real-time play-by-post large-scale wargame, with about twenty players leading six factions, each of which comprises dozens or hundreds of other players. It's got military operations, territorial brawls, an in-game stock market, and very complicated diplomacy. It's a huge experiment but should be a ton of fun.

Come play!

MOTHERSHIP MONTH

Shipping & Fulfillment

This year, we're trying something different. Nearly every Mothership Month project is part of a shared shipping initiative. That means:

  • One pledge manager. When Mothership Month ends, you’ll receive one combined pledge manager survey for all participating projects — our “mega pledge manager.” That means just one survey and one shipping payment for multiple projects.
  • One shipping charge. Because these projects will ship together, you’ll only pay shipping once, saving you money.
  • One fulfillment timeline. All participating campaigns are scheduled to ship at the same time, ensuring your rewards arrive together.
  • Two exceptions. Only two creators (Bombs Bursting in Air and Roach Motel) have opted out of this group fulfillment plan; their shipping will be handled separately. Why did they opt out? These two projects are very close to being ready to fulfill, and it didn't make sense to their teams to wait.

When will these projects ship?
Our collective goal is to have all Mothership Month 2025 projects fulfilled before Mothership Month 2026 begins. Some projects are further along than others, so their timeline for digital rewards will vary. But we have roughly a year to fulfill before Mothership Month 2026, which gives everyone enough time to finish up and get their products to our warehouse.

What is Mothership Month?

Every year, Tuesday Knight Games and dozens of third-party creators launch new Mothership projects around a shared theme. This year’s theme (“The Dream Returns”) centers on Prospero’s Dream, the infamous X-Class back-world, black market space station. Each project ties back to the Dream in some way.  Not only that, but we'll be opening up Prospero's Dream as a shared setting for all third-party creators going forward.

Get your exclusive Supply Pod!

This year we're changing up the Supply Pods. Now there is just ONE BIG SUPPLY POD. It's unlocked once all projects fund and it improves as we hit more group achievements. How do you get the Supply Pod? Back 5 or more projects at the physical level and get access to all the cool goodies.
