Eyes down, little wolf. In her world, the strong were broken young or they didn’t survive. Eyes down, little wolf, Zee’s father would say. You aren’t strong enough yet.
Zennia Day kept her eyes down and stayed quiet, knowing that one day, she’d escape.
And so begins the first story in my paranormal romance series, THE PRETERN WARS. A Prime's Passion, book 1, features Zee Day and Prime Niko Lachlan in hot, heartrending rejected mates story.
The second story, A Dragon's Desire, is about Soren, a very arrogant golden dragon, finding his love after she returns to him hundreds of years after her death, wearing a new body, a new face and not knowing him at all.
The third story will focus on Donner, the second-in-command to the dangerous Regnar of the Atlantic, the mermaid Meridia.
Speaking of Meridia... I found an artist who did her justice. Behold. The cover art, by Millikodea15.
Please excuse the watermark and grainy texture - I added a noise filter to hopefully prevent AI bots from scraping it.
Isn't it amazing?
The art is gorgeous and I knew it would be from the moment I saw the first draft, pictured below.
The first two books are available for sale now. You can read more about them at my website.

Update! Which is to say... there's not much to say...
In this update:
Apologies
State of the campaign
Apologies
Hard Goodbyes to Good Dogs (Pet loss)
First: This is cross-posted, edited for the appropriate campaign
I am so sorry things are taking this long.
Things should start moving a little quicker. Life have just been really hard lately. A short explanation.
For some time, my youngest, who we now call Hooligan, has been struggling with chronic health problems that we haven't been able to get diagnosed. About a year and a half ago, I started having suspicions about what the problem might be and we were referred to a specialty clinic, which unfortunately took over a year to get into.
The disorder is fairly rare and there are only a certain number of facilities in the US who are capable of diagnosing it, so the wait was something.
The Good News...we have answers. It's not anything life-threatening. It is genetic and yay... I'm the guilty culprit who passed this shitty genetic disorder down to my kid (and probably Guitar Kid, to a lesser degree).
However, the diagnosis has come with a number of follow-ups to specialists and stress to both the kiddo and me.
I've been living with the symptoms the kiddo has been dealing with for my entire life and have just dealt with the pain and all the assorted complications. For some reason, hearing the doctor in the specialty clinic talk about the various complications and connected health disorders...well.
I dunno, it was like a floodgate opened and all the health issues I've been trying to ignore just decided to flare up and decide that this year was going to be the year that I acknowledged they existed.
My pain issues have flared up. My headaches got worse. Insomnia and anxiety got worse. Pretty much every health issue I have flared up and all at the same time.
On top of that, we're dealing with trying to take the next steps in my son's healthcare.
Between getting my son to physical therapy and his various appointments and just trying to cope with my flare-ups of pain and the other chronic issues, I'm barely existing.
All of that said...
Kiddo mostly has a care plan mapped out.
It's entirely likely he'll end up on disability sooner rather than later. All the health problems I've struggled with - from pain to stomach issues to headaches, etc, his symptoms are far more debilitating.
I've had a little time to get my head wrapped around the fact that all the crap I've dealt with for ...well, forever, is, in fact, because of a specific health issue. So, I'm coping and I'm moving to the adjustment phase. And it's almost kinda nice to understand why *%^*&^ happens when I (&)(*&(& and when I ^%$$*$%)(&, I have &^*&(&).
Having answers can be weirdly cathartic. Eventually.
I don't want to go into detail about the disorder for a number of reasons, but especially because of privacy reasons. He's aware I'm discussing stuff in vague terms and is cool with it, but for his privacy and mine, I don't want to go into specifics.
On top of all of this...
Earlier in the year, one of my babies, Stitch, was put to sleep. We woke up morning and he was struggling to move. It seemed like he'd had a stroke or something.
That seriously sucked but everything got even harder because a few weeks ago, his sister, Lilo, (yes, Lilo and Stitch), went downhill fast and within a week, we made the hard decision to send her over the rainbow bridge.
Stitch hated car rides. Lilo loved them. They both loved attention, hugs, me, my guy, our kids, their sister, Willow, and each other. They were the two of the best dogs ever and losing them both so close together sent me swinging.
Stitch was one of those goofy dogs who would try to eat things nobody would think was edible. He once tried to eat a cactus. Seriously. A cactus. We had to doggy-proof our house but some part of me knew we'd lose him first.
I thought I'd have Lilo for a while longer, though. Losing both of them so close together gutted me. These two were my babies. Stitch was more my guy's baby than mine, but...they were my babies. More than any other dog we've ever owned, they were mine. They sat with me when I wrote, laid around my legs on days when I was depressed or just hurting too much to move out of bed for forever.
Now, they're gone. The one comfort is knowing that Stitch did not get away from Lilo chasing him for too long. She's now terrorizing him in a backyard where there's no poop, where they don't get fussed at for barking and if there is another dog in the yard next door...that dog is not any bigger than they are. Also, there is an endless supply of treats.
Having a handle on all of that...
I'm used to trying to move past grief and work past pain, but this year has dealt a little more than normal.
I am not knuckling under, though. For the past couple of weeks, work has been going more smoothly.
I'm hitting the point where I'm actually able to start accomplishing stuff on my way-past-needed-to-be-done list.
That means.
Getting more work done on the omnibus
I'm still working on the third story but I've also contracted a new artist and the project is moving forward there.
Again...
I am so sorry this is taking longer than expected. Your patience is a godsend and I appreciate all of you in ways I cannot express.
Future campaigns
I took on way too much for my first few campaigns and for the next year or two, I'm going to slow down a bit.
Again... my apologies on how long everything is taking.
First, let me apologize for the tardiness of this update. Second, apologies for the generic update, because this is going out to several campaigns.
That said…when last we met, I was trying to get over (another) health problem and trying to clear my office out so I could order another batch of books in for the followers of my Bear campaign. I was also wrapping up the updates on my Colbana files so I could start on formatting and adding the art, and working with the artist for the Preterns.
There is a fourth campaign, but I will be honest—I want to finish my Bear campaign before I start ordering in the pins for Pintopia. I still hope to complete shipping by early 2027, but I need to complete the Bear campaign first.
Bear/Kit/Preterns
As referenced in an earlier update, I’m limited on space – when I first started this campaign, that wasn’t the case. Middle Kid had recently graduated and moved out. Last summer, a friend of Youngest’s moved in. Then, early this year, my niece’s housing situation dissolved and now she’s living with us. Even the space I once had is gone, so I have to clear out in batches.
I still need to order the next round, which I should have already done.
This is where I owe another apology.
May is historically a terrible month for me as far as my depression goes due to the loss of my brother some years back. This year, I decided to do something rather than wait for the monthly slump. We vended at a ren faire, something I’ve wanted to do for years. It did help.
But it left me exhausted and my health problems have flared up. I’d get home Sunday, sleep most of Monday and have little energy or focus for work or anything else until Wednesday, at which point I’d have to drill down and focus on the next week’s faire and freelance work.
In addition, there are some family issues going on behind the scenes that are taking a lot out of me. Those are mostly resolved, but it's divided my attention more than I care to admit.
Unfortunately, this means I’ve let other things fall behind.
That includes backers of my campaigns and I apologize.
Bear
I’m planning on getting the next round of books in the mail within the next two-three weeks and the next batch of books ordered.
I’ll be getting another couple of rounds of orders sent out within the next month.
Colbana Files
I’m done with the revisions/bonus chapters and am going to be working on the formatting and adding the art in.
That will take several weeks to a couple of months, depending on if I need to commission any more art. The need for more art will depend on how everything flows with the formatting. I’ll use art to fill in the blank pages.
Preterns
I’m still working on book 3. My artist for the other books has offered to help handle the art since the artist I’d previously hired just didn’t quite meet my expectations, but that does mean more art going to one person. I’ll have an update here as soon as I’m able.
ABCs of Romance Pins
I hope to have a better idea of when I’ll be able to tackle this one once I’ve cleared my plate a little.
Long story short
I overloaded myself and I shouldn’t have. I apologize and I appreciate your patience.
Okay, so I found a new artist to create art for the second book in the omnibus. We spoke a little over a month ago, I saw the sketches and things looked good.
And...I've heard nothing since.
I know all about life interruptus so when I didn't back after the first couple of times I checked in, I didn't worry. But, as I said, it's been over a month since that initial contact and no news.
I think I'm going to have to look for another artist.
The good news, I'd only put a small deposit down.
The bad news...well, I have find another artist.
I might talk to Kmochi, who handles a lot of the art for my urban fantasy series, but that does mean she'll be working on two projects at once.
This is the first time I've had this happen so I guess I'll count myself lucky.
I had the ebook add-ons loaded to be distributed but I haven't started the process. It's required that I lock down the orders and I haven't done that yet, although I did start that just now.
I think I confused this with another project when I posted last night. I should have checked and I apologize for the confusion.
The ebook rewards going out...
The rewards will include the digital add-ons, not the omnibus, as it's still in the works.
It also won't include Night Blade as I'm still finishing up the artwork for that project.
The ebooks will be go out...
I'll get them distributed once the orders are locked. It's an automated process on Backerkit's end and I think it takes 48-72 hours. Once it's complete, I'll start distribution.
I'll post an update
I'll update here when the distribution is complete. Distribution will take place on Backerkit. If you're not familiar with how digital downloads work on Backerkit, read this article.
Sadly, there is no article to help with airhead authors like me. Again, my apologies!
This is Sorin in all his golden dragonly glory! Isn't he beautiful!
Sorin is the MMC is book 2 and I'm delighted with how he turned out. The artist for this piece is Lalune.
I'm in the process of getting the next few pieces of art done and I might end up using Kmochi, the artist I use for a lot of my projects. Updates to come.
Digital Rewards
I've sent out all digital rewards. If you haven't received yours, please email me at [email protected]
My Next Project
This fun enamel pin project is part of Pintopia 2026 and will involve, wait for it... the ABCs of Romance.
If you follow the campaign before it launches or pledge in the first 48 hours (or both!) you can get bonus incentives!
I'm in the middle of wrangling my campaign for the Holiday Market, getting ready for the Dickens Fest (I'm vending there for the first time... I'm so excited!!!) in Eminence, Ky.
Annnnndddd.... I'm working on the art for the book.
I've received the final artwork for another character in the project!
I'm waiting to hear back from the artist I found to do the artwork for the dragon... I'm super excited about it.
I might use the same artist doing the dragon artwork for more artwork in the book...but we'll see how things look after I see the final image of the dragon.
This credit will be applied during the pledge manager. It won't appear automatically when you place your pledge, when it will be in your basket when the pledge manager goes out and it's only available to previous backers!
