It's Space Wizard's fifth anniversary, and we have some great titles for you! From reincarnated wizards to post-apocalyptic Florida, rocket racing, martial arts, space rabbits, and giant crabs, we've got a bit of everything!
Get yourself ready to pledge on launch day.
Sign up to join BackerKit
or Log In to check if you are ready.
I have all the surveys created and I just pressed the button on the smoke test! That means 5% of backers will get their surveys, as a test to make sure everything works. If all goes well, I'll send out the rest of the surveys in a day or so.
When you get your survey please fill it out soon as you can. Our new books will start releasing this month (Orders of Lucianus and Aliens in New Florida are already on the way!) so the sooner you pick your books and extra swag, the sooner they get to you!
Also, if you are planning on getting the Space Wizard Novella Collection, be assured we WILL still be getting a new cover for that from Spoon. It's just going to be funded by my money rather than covering it with the campaign. Since we didn't hit the stretch goal, there won't be free eBook copies. There will be free eBook copies of the Quirk & Moth Omnibus, however! It's tentatively titled The Overarch Omnibus.
We've got some great new features for you this year, so read on!
NEW Book-chooser!
Since we have so many books to choose from now, I've had several readers saying it's hard to pick out which book they want. SO! If you selected a pledge level where you can pick a book (or three) from our catalog, I've added a new prompt with 2 options:
Method 1: shows how to use our filters on the Space Wizard website to pick what you want 1) go to the Space Wizard Book Page (see below screenshot) 2) Pick Fantasy or Science Fiction in Book Genre. 3) OR, pick Book Type and choose between Stand Alone, Series, Anthology, or MG/YA. (Note: novella-length titles are not included in the main survey paperback choices. They are included in the "One Paperback Book" or "One eBook" addons) 4) OR, pick what LGBTQIA+ representation you want to see between M/M, F/F, Bi/Pan, Ace, Trans, Nonbinary, or Poly! You can then filter further by using one of the other categories, or pick a single Book Series you're interested in. When you click on a book, that page will also let you preselect filters for a similar book, if that's not quite the one you want.
Space Wizard Filters
Method 2: I'll send you a "blind date" book 1) Pick the "Choose a book for me" option and fill out 3-5 titles, authors, genres, tropes, or some mix. 2) List any Space Wizard books you own to avoid duplication. 3) There's a new option for "I can't decide. Pick for me!" and I'll curate your book selection for you. 4) NOTE: this option is not available if you picked the "One Paperback Book" or "One eBook" addons. For this, use Method 1 above to select which book you want, if you can't decide.
Let me know what you think when you get your survey! This a work in process, so I want to make it as smooth as possible to match you with your perfect book(s).
T-Shirt Firesale!
We are also selling off the LAST of our Space Wizard and Lesbians in Space T-shirts, as the manufacturer has changed. You'll see a bunch of options like this in the addons section. These are LIMITED to 1-3 of each, so when they're gone, they're gone!
MOAR Campaigns!
We've got two more campaigns in the works for 2026!
The first is following on our Audiobook campaign this March for Mary Robinette Kowal to record Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before. For those of you who backed it, she's just finished up the last corrections and pickups, and we hope to get the audio files out to you in a couple weeks. Mary Robinette has graciously agreed to work with us again, and so we're running another campaign in September for her to record the second anthology,Lesbians in Space: The Sapphics Strike Back!

Whew! I think that's enough news for now. If you're going to ConGregate next weekend in Greensboro (their new location), come say hi! I'll be on several panels, including one showing off the books in this campaign!
Thanks everyone for your support this year! I know it's not the best of times economically, but I'm grateful to everyone who was able to support more queer literature getting published. Bringing those voices to light is one of the ways we continue to foster hope!
What Happens Next:
• Card Processing: Backerkit will now begin charging cards. Please make sure your payment info is up to date to avoid any issues.
• Surveys: Backer surveys will go out as soon as I finish them up! I'll be working on them this week, and hopefully send them out early next week, especially as our first book, Lucianus, releases on July 14. When the surveys go out, you can add any extras, and confirm your shipping address. We have a lot of books available now, and choosing (if you're not just getting the new ones) can get overwhelming. I'm hoping to add some tools to help that out this time.
So sit tight! There are some amazing books coming your way very soon. And if you're already eager for what's releasing soon at Space Wizard, check out our next two campaigns, coming in September and October!
Lesbians in Space: The Sapphics Strike Back Audiobook. We're very much hoping Mary Robinette Kowal will return to record audio for the second anthology, sequel to Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before. We're running this campaign in September along with BackerKit's Printopia 2026, so sign up now to get updates!
Space Wizard Year 5 Part 2! We've got even more books on the horizon, with pirates, romance, space exploration and cozy fantasy! Coming in October 2026. Sign up to make sure you get updates!
We've got less than one week left in the Space Wizard Year 5 campaign, and I've got a progress report on the last two covers!
First off, we have the (almost finished) cover for Obsidian, the second in the Hidden Earth trilogy. We're going to make a few more small changes, like moving the desert line even farther to the left, and moving the spaceship to the right of the cover. Aside from that, it's ready to go!
I've also got an update on the full wrap for Pressure Magic, the third in my Shifting Lands series. This is still in rough form, but Serene is working hard on the final! Is that a giant otter in the background you see? Yes, yes it is! I'm just starting out on the final draft of this book, and hope to finish up in a week or so.
In other great news, Physical Magic, the first book, is a semi-finalist this year in the SPFBO (Self-Pub Fantasy Blog-Off) contest! Down from 300 books, Physical Magic is one of 4 chosen from my review team to get a (very nice)special review and be considered for one of 7 finalists! This is a great time to pick up all three books, maybe by getting three books of your choice!
We're right at $5,800 today, and I'd really like to at least get to our $6,500 stretch goal before we end, to pay for the cover of the new Quirk & Moth Omnibus! Ideally, I'd love to also hit the $7,500 stretch goal to pay for the cover of the Space Wizard Novella Collection as well! So please tell friends and family, and let's get the word out. We've got 6 days left to hit those goals!
Remember, if we hit these goals, all backers also get a free eBook of these omnibuses!
Ready for the next poll? Now that we've got an idea of all the covers, which one is your favorite? Let me know below!
We've got a surprise update for you today! I've been working behind the scenes with Carmen Loup, author of The Audacity Omnibus and the upcoming Aliens in New Florida, on distributing their graphic novel of The Audacity!
People have been asking about graphic novels from Space Wizard for years now, so we've just added this to the Space Wizard Year 5 campaign as a new 148-page full-color addon. The Audacity graphic novel covers the events of book one in vibrant hilarity! If you're a fan of Carmen's other work (or a future fan), you don't want to miss this one. See Xan in his fancy racing hat!
And if you all want to see more graphic novels, let me know in the poll! You may be in luck...
Just 3 of the 148 pages from The Audacity graphic novel!
We're on our way to the first stretch goal to fund the Quirk & Moth omnibus cover art at $6,500, so let friends and family know about the campaign, and about all 11 projects in The Summer Bonanza.
Remember, we've also got a great new opportunity for writers and self-publishers to work with me on a 1-1 basis about writing, editing, publishing and marketing. If you're trying to break into publishing, or trying to market your books better, this is a great opportunity to pick my brain about the best way to do that!
New Writing Craft Pledge Levels: work with an industry professional!
Hi Folks!
We're chugging along, with 20 days left in our campaign, and we've passed some great goals so far in both my campaign and our Summer Bonanza collective. I wanted to let you all know, I've just added a new pledge level (and addon) to the Space Wizard Year 5 campaign!
Are you a writer, published or aspiring? Do you feel like you aren't getting all the information you need to navigate the fast-changing world of self-publishing or marketing your books? Are you a traditionally-published author wanting to go self-pub? Fortunately, I work in these areas daily, have experience publishing over 70 books, have worked with authors in the self-pub and traditional areas, and have contacts throughout the industry! I'm happy to help you out!
I'm on panels at literary conventions 5-6 times a year, I'm a member of the Indie authors committee at SFWA (Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association), and I also teach a class at conventions called "I'm Selling Books But Am I Making Money" about how to calculate ROI for your books.
Make sure to check out the poll below to let me know what kind of writer you are!
I've added both a pledge level and an addon letting you schedule 2 one-hour Zoom sessions with me to talk about pretty much whatever you want in the industry, including writing, publishing, book marketing, ROI, or anything else you can think of with regard to publishing. It's a great opportunity for self-published authors!
Available topics can be: Developmental Editing Assessment How to Handsell Books (Markets and Conventions) How to Self-Publish Making Money While Selling Books (ROI calculations) Self-Pub vs. Traditional publishing Looking for Agents and publishers while US. vs. International Writing and Outlining Beta Reading Critique Groups Critique Partners And anything else around these topics you can think of!
If you're not ready to commit to a developmental edit with a stranger, or are just getting into writing and want to know more about the tradeoffs, this is an easy and cheap way to get a leg up.
And speaking of book editing, we still have some slots available if you're looking to get developmental or copy editing done on your manuscript. We offer a discount from our usual rates (which are fairly inexpensive anyway) during our campaigns, and they're good for up to a year, so even if you don't have something now, you can still get the discount!
Both pledges say they're for 100k words, but we're happy to adjust the amount up or down, depending on what you need.
If none of this applies to you, and you just want books, we've got those too! But please pass this around to friends and family, if you know someone who might be interested. That's one of reasons I started Space Wizard, to help uplift voices that aren't heard, and to publish excellent science fiction and fantasy!
We hit our funding goal last night after 1 week! Yaaay! (Kermit arm flail)
But we've still got several weeks to go in this campaign, and some great stretch goals to hit!
At $6,500 We will pay for a new cover for the Quirk&Moth collection of three books and 3 short stories and all backers get an eBook copy. Over 1000 pages!
At $7,500 We will pay for a new cover for the Space Wizard novella collection of five novellas and all backers get an eBook copy! Over 650 pages!
Let's get some amazing covers for these two books!
And speaking of covers, I just got the final for Lucianus yesterday from Spoon, and it looks better than ever. Feast your eyes on this!
I'm very much looking forward to getting this book, and the other seven in this campaign, out to you very soon!
We're also so close to hitting our first achievement for the collaboration. Only $790 away! Make sure to back 5 or more of our amazing indie projects to get your own sticker sheet!
Tell your friends, family, and random passersby about the campaign, and let's get all these projects funded!
Our year 5 campaign is better than ever, and we'll be releasing (at least) 7 queer science fiction and fantasy books from June to December 2026! Stay tuned for our Part 2 campaign coming later this year.
If you've backed our Year 1-4 campaigns or read Space Wizard books, you know the quality of work we publish. Get any or all of the new stories as they release. We have some great new books coming to you!
If you haven't heard of us before...
Space Wizard Science Fantasy is a queer science fiction and fantasy indie publishing company started in 2016 to publish William C. Tracy's books. But in 2021, the publishing company opened its doors to more authors. Our intent has always been to showcase quality science fiction and fantasy stories with queer characters, because they don't get enough exposure in the publishing world.

Queen and Obsidian, by J.S. Fields, a duology of science fiction space opera stories. It begins with Queen, where an intersex woman is trapped on a barely hospitable planet of women, only to learn their meager living area is further threatened. There may be one more exciting release to add...stay tuned!
