Project Update: A new essay unlocked and a new pledge level

Greetings, backers and friends of Strange Horizons!

Earlier today we passed $12500 raised. This puts us at less than $10000 from our base goal! It also means that we've unlocked another piece in our 2026 Fund Drive issue. This piece is an essay by Jenna Hanchey titled "Against Worldbuilding."

We also just added a new signed book donation tier that includes as rewards signed books from the award winning authors Charlie Jane Anders and Mary Robinette Kowal. Selecting this tier allows you to choose one book as your reward, on a first come, first served basis. Here are the books in this new tier:

Even Greater Mistakes (hb), signed by Charlie Jane Anders
The City in the Middle of the Night (hb), signed by Charlie Jane Anders
Never Say You Can't Survive (pb), signed by Charlie Jane Anders (2 available)
Apprehension, signed by Mary Robinette Kowal
The Martian Contingency, signed by Mary Robinette Kowal

And, as always, thank you all so much for your support of Strange Horizons! We wouldn't be able to publish the work that we do without all of you!

Project Update: A great first day and a new poem unlocked!

Greetings, backers and friends of Strange Horizons.

We have raised over $10,000 and we're rapidly approaching 50% of our base goal! We have had the most successful first 24 hours in our history and we have all of you to thank for that!

At the $10,000 milestone we also unlocked a new poem by two time Nevin Prize recipient Izzy Toy Rettke called "How to Court a Siberian Tiger." Please click through and give it a read.

We've been greatly encouraged by our success so far! We have hopes of reaching not only our base goal, but also our stretch goals that will allow us to pay our writers more. If you can't provide a donation, or have donated already, you can still help be getting to word out about our fundraiser on social media and other platforms.

Again, thank you all very much for everything you've done for Strange Horizons!

Project Update: We've passed $7500 and unlocked a new review!

Greetings, backers and friends of Strange Horizons.

We are less than 24 hours into our fundraiser and we have passed $7500 raised, putting us more than a third of the way toward our initial goal. At this level, a new review is unlocked in our special Fund Drive 2026 issue! Up next, we have Stephanie Burt's review of the nonfiction book Fantasy: A Short History by Adam Roberts.

We hope you enjoy this new piece and thank you to all of our new backers for getting us there!

Project Update: A Successful Launch!

Greetings, backers and other friends of Strange Horizons!

We want to thank everyone for making the first day of our 2026 Fundraiser, our first using BackerKit as a platform, a success.  At the time that I'm writing this, about 8.5 hours after launching this year's campaign, we are at 24% of our funding goal! Thank you to everyone who helped get us there.

We also unlocked 4 pieces today in our Fund Drive 2026 special issue of Strange Horizons! The first piece is a review by Akankshya Abismruta of the Korean novel Red Sword by Bora Chung and translated by Anton Hur. The second was a poem "The Dream of Jeannie" by Marie Brennan, winner of the first ever Hugo Award for Best Poem. Our third piece was an essay, by writer, artist, and game designer Gwen Katz, called "The Many Metaphors of Lycanthropy." And our fourth piece, unlocked when we hit $5000 raised, was "For a Handful of Salted Teeth" by Marisca Pichette.

We've got many more great pieces scheduled to be unlocked as we approach our funding goal! And we still have many great rewards yet to be claimed! Thanks again for a great start!
