While we're counting down the days, we wanted to give ye another look inside the book and introduce one of Tempest's playable species: the Cuttlefolk!
Meet the Cuttlefolk 🐙
Deep beneath the waves of Tempest live the Cuttlefolk, a cephalopod-like people known for their remarkable ability to manipulate the colors and patterns of their skin.
This natural ability allows them to communicate with one another, express emotion, and even disorient their enemies with hypnotic displays.
They also have a few tricks up their sleeves (or tentacles), including Dark Depth Vision, resistance to psychic damage, and the ability to create an inky darkness to help them escape danger.
They're just one of the playable species waiting for ye in Tempest, and we've got plenty more to share once the campaign begins!

Welcome to Tempest: A Seafarer’s Sourcebook Remastered Edition!
Tempest holds a pretty special place in Dragon’s Vault history. We started it as a homebrew setting to play with friends, and it eventually became the first RPG book we published.
A few years and many lessons later, we decided it was time to return to familiar waters.
So, what is Tempest? Tempest is a nautical fantasy sourcebook for 5e & 5.5, set in a world of piracy, exploration, strange islands, dangerous creatures, and the ever-present Great Storm, which is slowly swallowing the world around it.
And, of course, there are plenty of ships!
One of the things we're most excited about in the Remastered Edition is our ship combat and crew management system.
Your party can take command of its own vessel, hire a crew, assign officer roles, upgrade the ship, and take on enemy vessels in naval combat. We've put a lot of care into making these encounters fun and engaging without giving the GM a mountain of extra work.
Beyond the ships, you'll find 10 subclasses, four playable races, a full bestiary, NPCs, spells, magic items, feats, and plenty more to help bring your adventures at sea to life.
Why remaster it?
Well, we've learned quite a bit since we first published Tempest!
And looking back at our very first book, there were plenty of things we wanted to revisit.
So we've been hard at work expanding the content, refining the mechanics, creating new artwork, and giving Tempest the attention and polish we've always wanted it to have.
Tempest officially sets sail on BackerKit October 20! For now, thanks for joining the crew so early. We're glad to have ye aboard!
