Welcome, Heretic!

Yours is a soul stained and tarnished by sins unforgivable. So sayeth the Inquisition who in its beneficence has granted you mercies far greater than a heretic deserves. By land and then by sea, you find yourself now within Perdition's Cage - in the company of the damned and the vile. From the festering Hellmouth of a drowned leviathan, the dread isle belches forth effluvial tides of perfidious fiends. You must endure. You must persist. Your toil shall absolve your betters. The blood of the damned shall redeem the sins of sovereigns and saviors alike! Fight and struggle for the honor that your mangled corpse shall pave the path of glory for the Final Crusade. Only then shall you know grace.

Perdition's Cage

In-progress sketch of Perdition's Cage

The Inquisition in their beneficence has turned this island into a penal colony for the penitent who seek salvation through blessed toil for their betters. In time the clarion call shall sound for the Final Crusade and the bars of Perdition's Cage shall be flung open, allowing the truly worthy to invade Hell. All as has been foretold in pursuit of the Grand Design.

But no cathedral is built in a day, even by a divine hand. Such grand works take time, and mortal life - petty as it is - demands coin commensurate with their merit against the inevitable. While all souls are worthy of redemption, some are more worthy of toiling to ensure it comes to pass.

This is your lot, heretic. Cherish this clemency. It is the last grace you shall come to know before the crusade is waged.

Within Perdition's Cage, if you are truly worthy, you shall dispatch every devil, fiend, demon, and sin that makes itself manifest in tribulation against the mettle of man. You will purify the sins of your betters in proxy, with indulgent effigies and the sweat of your labors.

Toil well and you shall redeem yourself. Serve without question, and you may earn freedom enough to witness the glory to come...

Exiles, Apostates, and Saviors

You are not the first to come here, nor will you be the last. Beyond the festering blight of devilry, you must contend with the teeming machinations of the self-righteous, iniquitous and vile settlers who came before you. Find cause for commensality and kindness if you believe virtue may still shine in your heart - or simply make use of any trust granted, however false the pretenses were.

The Bootcutters will offer you their pitiable perception of the circumstances. These prisoners have scorned the mercy of the Church. Thieves, rogues, and dogsbodies all - but such is to be expected of "honest" labor.
"Mad" Meg nearly suffers in disquietude enough to tarnish her virtues. The Hand of the Divine guides her blade but bids patience. Alas, she cannot slay every devil in Hell until mortal hands grant her leave to do so.
The Saltermen, an unfortunate consequence born of mankind's greed and the tempting rot which hides in the hearts of even the strongest. The foulest of knaves and chiselers seeking to smuggle in all manner of curios - no matter what calamity such fiendish baubles might bring.
The False Adherents are worth neither your time nor respect. Blasphemous filth who have spat upon the mercy of the Church. They delude themselves to think their vile rites might appease Hell itself.
The House of Hemlocks congregate still around their leader, a once righteous crusader who has allowed despair to poison him from the Grand Design. His rabble challenge the Inquisition with petty posturing, refusing to serve the Church as was ordained.
The Chaplain's Host would be commendable in their zeal if not for the influence their wield. A cargo cult of every pagan, wayward, and schismatic rite held by the penitent; bent to serve the Grand Design. Their proclaimed insight of faith is little more than farce.

Risks and Timeline

Both of us are experienced designers and are actively working on Indulgence Scorned. We expect the adventure will be ready in June. However, the future is unwritten and life events can always happen, which could delay the release to later in the summer. Because this project is digital-only, however, you will receive the adventure as soon as it is finished. The digital stretch goals (Foundry support and character builder) will be worked on after the adventure is released and are expected to be available no later than the end of August.

Expected Timeline

May: Brian and Danielle continue writing/designing the adventure, Brian does final edits on the text, and Danielle begins layout.
June: Danielle finishes layout and the adventure becomes available
July: Brian and Danielle complete unlocked digital stretch goals
