Can you believe it's already been a year? ⚔ (for Distal)
Hey there, folks! And happy anniversary... kind of.
In April 24, 2024, the BackerKit campaign for Distal was launched. Since that point, we've built up a little community, got the game finished and out in the wild (digital in January, and hardcovers now-ish.)
Another wave of books went out today (check your email for tracking numbers!), and all that should remain to send at this point are the orders containing more than one book, which I'll have wrapped up in May. A bit later than I was hoping for, but it'll come in just under the year mark if you include the campaign's end-date, which was May 29, 2024. Not too shabby, for an entirely new game system!
As we reach the end of the process, you won't be seeing too many emails from here from here on out, but you can always swing by the Discord (https://discord.gg/mKUaFTKfYb) if you're looking for folks to play or chat with. Though, I'll be sure to let you know if a new project begins to take root.

Hey there, folks. Wanted to give a quick update on the book situation. The long and short of it is that I'm running a bit behind. The first shipment of books went out this past weekend, and I'm planning to get the rest out this week and next.
It will have been ONE YEAR since the initial launch of Distal's BackerKit campaign here on the 24th of April, so I'm really trying to have everything fulfilled before then.
For some fun, here's what the living situation has been looking like in recent days.

WE GOT THE GOODS
Hey there, folks! Just yesterday we were able to pick up the first batch of books. We were hitting the weight limits in the vehicle, so it'll take at least one more trip to pick up all the books, but we've got 'em! Each box is around 31lbs, there are 50 boxes, each packed with 10 books, so around 1550lbs total. That's a lot of paper!

Next stop, packing and shipping. Speaking of which...
Shipping Addresses Locking Down Tomorrow I'll flip the switch on locking down addresses, so if you've moved in the last year, now is a good time (and the last chance you'll have) to check your information. If you have any problems with editing, I can help you out, so just ping me at [email protected] if needed.
In the top-right dropdown on BackerKit, click the "Your Pledges & Surveys" button, then go to the "Your Surveys" tab. Under the "Order Status" column, you can click "edit address" to ensure it looks good.
Ensure your address is correct.

The books have all been printed, and I'll be picking them up later this week. As I get all set up to start sending them out, I want to make sure everyone has 👏 their 👏 shipping 👏 addresses 👏up 👏 to 👏 date.
I'll be sending out a final notice to lock addresses on March 14th. If you've moved recently, give it a look and ensure it's accurate!
In the top-right dropdown on BackerKit, click the "Your Pledges & Surveys" button, then go to the "Your Surveys" tab. Under the "Order Status" column, you can click "edit address" to ensure it looks good.
Ensure your address is correct.
If you're one of the eight unfortunate souls that have yet to fill out their survey -_-, this is your last chance to do that as well, or you won't be able to get your book at all. (If your survey isn't done, it'll say so under the order status.)
Hey all, I've been working through the split-book (prep/play) layout originally pitched, but it's not working out. For mostly technical reasons, I don't have confidence that I could deliver a version of the hardcover that wasn't also riddled with errors. I was really excited for the idea, and feel like it would have been a big improvement (or at least a novel one) on modern TTRPG books that got you to information quickly... but alas.
If you purchased a hardcover solely for the split-book concept, just send a support email and we'll get you sorted.
The silver lining is that I'm falling back to a style of book that is tried and true, as boring as that is. You'll get a solid hardcover with everything you'd expect in it. I'll be sending the full layout off to the printer later this week, and will keep you updated with how that's going.
BETTER NEWS, NEW WEBSITE
I've been getting a new home for Distal sorted, and that's now available at https://www.playDisRPG.com. It's mainly to introduce new folks to the game, but there will be some (more) resources in the "Free Materials" section, with a Quickstart and Intro Adventure landing at some point.
If you want to show off the game to your friends, the website is a good place to start. There's also a one-click, 24-page Core Rules preview available on the site, too!
THIRD-PARTY LICENSING NOW AVAILABLE
The biggest news is that there's now a license (and some branding assets) available for anyone interested in making their own content for Distal, and selling it royalty-free. I tried to keep the license as simple as possible, while protecting the IP. Ultimately, I just want you all to make amazing things, using Distal as a platform to build upon. Yesterday I sent out an updated version of the Core Rules that has a smattering of grammatical fixes, as well as some balance touchups here and there (because I can't help myself.) I've also added tokens for the Falconer and their Raptor Companion, which were missing from my original batch.
If any further updates occur (even post-print,) you'll find them land as an updated version in your downloads section, per usual.

I've connected with a manufacturer here in the United States who has given me a good quote (and turnaround time) on the hardcovers, so I'm definitely seeing the books land on your doorstep here in March-ish if all goes according to plan.

I'm currently getting a new home for Distal put together at https://www.playDisRPG.com. Mostly to provide a place to get the game, free materials (when they become available,) as well as a Creator's Kit for folks looking to make their own homebrew or third-party content.
THIRD PARTY LICENSING
When the new website comes online, licensing for content creators will be available for anyone looking to build off of Distal. It'll also have creator resources you can use to stamp your creations with, as well as some helpful guidelines on building your own content in a way that jives with the game. The license is super lightweight, and there aren't any royalties attached. Just go out and make cool stuff.
