Log into BackerKit with the email address that you used when you signed up. You should see "access granted" on the pledge level. Full instructions are in the "Read more" button at the bottom of the pledge level, as well as at https://www.mercedeslackey.com/heralds-scholarships---reservations NOTE: new scholarship recipients will be added on a weekly basis. If you miss the campaign and are in our records as a scholarship recipient, we will add you manually afterwards.
If you made a pre-launch reservation, your pledge price is calculated by subtracting your discount and your reservation from the original cost. 125 -25 (Discount)-5 (Prepaid) = 95 (discounted pledge)
Every single person who completed their Grandmaster surveys has received their rewards. We would love to ship to the 50 or so remaining backers, but we don't have your shipping addresses! Please email [email protected] so that we can help you complete your survey and find out where to send your books.
Honest answer: probably Los Angeles and/or Seattle, but we'll adjust to global political and economic instability as needed.
Vegan leather, typically polyurethane (PU) or PVC, is plastic-based and begins to degrade within 5-10 years. The plasticizers break down; the surface flakes, cracks, and peels. A deluxe edition is built to be an heirloom, so we chose leather. Longevity: Properly cared for, leather bindings last for generations. PU leather books are already disintegrating. Patina: Real leather develops character with use. Sustainability tradeoff: Leather is biodegradable. PU and PVC are petroleum-derived plastics.
We've officially planned fulfillment for May of 2027. It can take 3-4 weeks for the warehouse to package and ship everything. Depending on your location in the world, delivery can take anywhere from a few days to an entire month. We expect all books for backers with completed surveys to be delivered by July 1, 2027.
Yes! This is the fourth crowdfunding campaign that Misty has contracted Ben to run on her behalf. This project originated with Misty and Larry, and they have overseen and approved every stage of the process.
With crowdfunding, backers are funding production, not buying off a shelf. With that in mind: – Before the campaign closes, you can adjust or cancel your pledge directly through BackerKit. – During the pledge manager, you can modify your pledge until BackerKit's lockdown date. – After lockdown, we've committed funds to manufacturing based on confirmed pledges, so refunds aren't generally available. If you're facing unusual circumstances, email [email protected] and we'll work with you. If we significantly miss our delivery estimate, we'll communicate openly and offer refund options to anyone whose patience that exceeds.
We use EasyShip (or a similar service) to manage outbound shipping. Your shipping notification email will come from EasyShip and include tracking information. We ship in waves of 500-1000 packages at a time, domestic first, international in a later wave so we can troubleshoot any issues before sending packages overseas. US domestic packages ship via Media Mail by default (the standard carrier class for books in the US). Media Mail can appear "stalled" because intermediate tracking updates are sparse, so don't worry unless 20+ days have passed without any movement. International packages ship with tracked carriers (and pre-paid duties when possible).
We keep late fulfillment open for one full year from the date primary shipping begins. Once a month, we review the dashboard for late surveys, send those orders to the ZOE warehouse, and ship them in monthly batches. If your survey is incomplete or shipping is unpaid, email [email protected] and we'll help you get your order ready.
Wave assignment is based on pledge survey completion and region. Typically Wave One contains the following, and proceeds in this order: • Backers with surveys completed by the public cut-off date (we'll give you plenty of notice); • Whose payments for shipping processed successfully; • Starting with domestic (US) backers; • Followed by Canadian backers; • Followed by the rest of the world After that has completed we work with backers who have experienced issues to resolve payment problems, incomplete surveys, and other edge cases. Anything solved quickly goes to Wave Two. Finally, we review the project on a monthly basis for the next year to search for stragglers, late surveys, and so on. We'll email anyone in this category more times than you want to imagine.
This is a visual guide to interpreting the Arrow Code. You'll need it to decipher the message hidden in the endpapers!
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
