I’ve been a huge Nexus & Steve Rude fan since issue #5, “I’m Bored”, Which is what I was at the time. Bored of the regular comics I bought, mainly mainstream Marvel and DC titles, so I ask the owner of my LCS for some recommendations and he suggested Nexus. Issue #5 was the current issue on the stands so I bought it and took it home and read it right away.
I loved it, “Are you lame, or are you game?”, and suddenly remembered that there was an issue of Amazing Heroes that had a cover story on Nexus that that I hadn’t read yet so I grabbed that and read the article and was permanently hooked.
From reading the article I realized that I had purchased the first color issue of Nexus that was sitting in my unread file. (After passing on buying TMNT #1, I started buying all new #1 issues of independent comics). So I found my Nexus #1 issue and read that and I couldn’t wait to go back to the comic store the next day to buy all the back issues I’d missed.
That’s my Nexus origin story. A few years later I lucked out when Steve Rude went to his first SDCC in 1984 and I got to meet him.
